It was an early morning on a very hot summer day, when Grogu was awakened by an errant ray of sun that managed to creep through his window and land directly on his eyelid.  He was trying to sleep again when a thought jolted him awake. The Champion City Siege for Lordsbane Fort was scheduled in a few hours.

How come ChristianOr was not banging at his door, was she ill? but then he remembered she was away. A couple of hours later, Grogu, breaking his fast at the Great Hall, asked the rest of the 389 warriors what they were planning. A couple shrugged, and Grogu sighed. He would have to take the lead on this.

Judging from the battlefield it looks like it will be a battle between ROD and NBE. Since we do not have ties with either, we could pick either side to join. And since it is hell on earth to obtain battle diamonds when defending, I think joining hands with the NBE warriors might serve us better in obtaining the full rewards, Grogu concluded.

Everyone nodded their assent, except for a taciturn infantry warrior, who murmured he would join the ROD side, as he had some friends over there.

Good luck getting the sixty battle diamonds, murmured Grogu and proceeded making hastily all the necessary arrangements. And because he was a nice guy, he did not even neglect sending a raven to ChristianOr asking her how many of her infantry T4 (she had practically no other type T4s) he could kill.

All of them, came back her swift reply.

Right answer, he said smugly.

I just hope I manage to get some troops in the revival altar, ChristianOr wrote him.

Grogu was sure that was a given, but hardly had time to answer her as they were taking their places to the battlefield.

There was a sense of expectancy in the air and the 389 warriors got quickly caught up in the excitement. The opposing forces both boasted great warriors like UrCandy and Xasap from one side and Barbarossa and Bizonus from the other side. The heralds trumpeted the beginning of the Champion City Siege, and all participating warriors threw caution to the wind, and let bloodlust consume them.

The fight was even at first, and none was busier than Grogu handling multiple armies, joining rallies and defending the Lordsbane Fort.

I want to rally UrCandy too, Mack exclaimed with a boyish enthusiasm, and his fellow warriors rushed to support him. His rally went off, and to his delight it was a successful one.

Notwithstanding Mack’s successful rally, it seemed the side they had joined was slowly and inexorably losing ground. They still called the banners and sent one rally after the other, without pausing.

Come on guys, join up, Barbarossa cheerfully called, let us see if we can turn this siege around.

His rally was filled in record time and marched towards Lordsbane Fort.

Again, he called, barely pausing to draw a breath or heal his wounded.

Problem is, Mack said, that even though we win, we do not have enough rally leads to deal the necessary damage to oust them from the Fort.

As if its sole purpose of existence was to prove Mack wrong, the next rally kicked UrCandy.

We finally have it, Barbarossa was saying excitedly. Reinforce me fast please, and for the love of the Seven only send spears.

Everyone rushed to reinforce as fast as they could, and it was only then Grogu realised, he actually had achieved almost zero eliminations with ChristianOr’s troops, which was no mystery as all the fighting so far had been done with spears since Ur Candy was cavalry. The rest of them had all done pretty decently. He scrambled to find some troops to send to the defense, but she had no spears left. He was still thinking when the enemy rally hit, and to their surprise their solid spear defense held.

Refresh, and send again, they were instructed, but the enemy had many more leaders, and they finally overcame their defense, and regained the fort.

Hey, did you get your eliminations? Grogu asked their infantry comrade from the enemy side.

Did I? he laughed happily. I got them nine times over.

Grogu gulped nervously. Despite his big talk, it seemed he had failed to kill even a single one of ChristianOr troops. He surveyed the map, and UrCandy was once more enthroned in the Fort. To hit with infantry was suicide. To go back without achieving his goal was equally unpalatable. Time was ticking and the Champion City Siege was almost over.

In desperation he approached Balrum.

I need a favor, he said without preamble. I want you to rally Lorsbane Fort and do it fast.

Won’t that be a sure death for us and everyone who joins? Balrum queried, perplexed.

Almost certainly yes, but is our only chance to get Chris some rewards.

So, why are you still talking and not joining? Balrum asked, smiling kindly.

You are the best, my friend, Grogu replied and rushed to join.

The rally left and Grogu hoped his friend would not pay a too heavy price. He could barely look, but in the end he just had to know how much of a carnage he caused. Their rally hit the castle and there, they were, walking back.

UrCandy had changed to spears, probably to counter Bizonus’ cavalry rallies. What a hit!! it had been enough for Chris to clear all rewards in one go. The trumpets signaled the end of the City Siege.

Grogu and Balrum cheered wildly, while the rest of the CCX looked at them like they were mad, as their side had been defeated.

Thank you Balrum, I really owe you one, Grogu reached out and shook Balrum’s hand wildly.

You owe me nothing, are you the only one who is allowed to take care of our fellow 389 warriors? Balrum replied solemnly.

Grogu thought how happy he was to have such good friends including an annoying one who tended to wake him up for every CCS, except this one, and smiled wildly.

Let’s go Balrum, drinks on me tonight….
