💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 159’s MANDALORIAN’S(MDS) Server 382’s Whales To Feed(W2F).

💠Overview

MDS enters the matchup with a 5–1 record, with their only loss coming against RiP. Despite coming from an older server with more IBL experience, they have not been particularly impressive this season and generally field around 25–30 players per week. W2F also sits at 5–1 and likewise lost only to RiP, though none of their victories have stood out either. The biggest difference is attendance, as W2F consistently brings 35–40 players each week. MDS may have the experience edge, but overcoming that kind of manpower deficit will be difficult, so W2F should have the advantage heading into the match.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

MDS

  • Started with 19 players and ended with 35
  • 9 Attack talents
  • 9 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

W2F

  • Started with 32 players and ended with 28
  • 24 Attack talents
  • 6 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talent

💠Tower 1

At Tower 1, MDS sent 8 players while W2F committed 9, making the opening fairly even on paper. The two teams contested one spot on the top side of the tower and another on the right, but if W2F assigned the correct players from the closest spawn positions, they should be favored to win both relocation races and create an even larger numbers advantage. MDS would have been better served focusing on the left and bottom sides of the tower instead of contesting positions where W2F had the better pathing.

💠Tower 4

At Tower 4, MDS sent 8 players while W2F committed 10 with one overlapping relocation. W2F attempted to use two players to block four MDS relocations: the block on the top side should work because W2F has the better path there, but the three attempted blocks on the bottom side are unlikely to succeed since W2F lacks the edge spawns needed to arrive before MDS. MDS positioned more cleanly around the tower, while a couple of W2F players settled farther back than necessary. Despite W2F’s slight numbers advantage, their inefficient blocking attempts and weaker spacing could make the fight closer than it should be.

💠Central Tower

Both teams committed just one player to the Central Tower, effectively conceding early control of the area in favor of the outer objectives. That makes the battles at Towers 1 and 4 even more important, as whichever alliance secures those towers first can immediately rotate freed-up players into the center. With the Central Tower opening at the 10-minute mark, the team that wins its outer-tower fights quickest should have a significant numbers and positioning advantage when the battle for the most valuable objective begins.

💠Altars

MDS sent one player to the Sun Altar. W2F sent two to the Sun Altar and three to the Moon Altar. These altars are a huge waste of resources at the start of the match.

💠Home Towers

MDS stationed three guards at their home tower while W2F had six at theirs. Enemies won’t be able to attack an alliance’s home tower until around the six to seven-minute mark so W2F didn’t have to have that many guards defending their home tower.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, MDS and W2F each blocked one relocation, but W2F immediately punished the MDS blocker by bombarding him with attacks and flying him after he failed to defend any of them. W2F then turned to the objective and nearly captured it before MDS interrupted the siege at the last second. That delay did not last long, as W2F zeroed three more defenders in quick succession and secured Tower 1 at the 6-minute mark. When MDS tried to relocate closer to reestablish control, W2F repeatedly blocked and destroyed the incoming relocations. With the area cleared, W2F finished off the remaining defenders and began rotating toward the Central Tower and MDS' home tower.

At Tower 4, MDS and W2F each blocked one relocation, but the fight developed much more slowly than Tower 1 as both sides relied heavily on rallies. Several late W2F players arrived to reinforce the area, and their added pressure forced multiple MDS defenders to pull backward. W2F finally secured the first kill around the 8-minute mark, followed by another just a minute later. From there, MDS began collapsing much faster as W2F’s growing numbers overwhelmed them. Once the defenders were pushed completely away from the objective, W2F captured Tower 4 at the 16-minute mark, giving them control of three towers to MDS’ one.

In the center, three W2F players rotated in from the Moon Altar around the 7-minute mark to join their lone teammate, while MDS managed to bring in only one additional player, leaving them outnumbered 5-to-2. MDS responded by relocating three more players from spawn and did a respectable job picking off a couple of W2F members, but the attendance gap gave W2F far more room for error. Once Tower 4 fell, additional W2F players flooded into the Central Tower and gradually overwhelmed MDS. Reinforcements kept arriving until MDS could no longer hold the area, and W2F captured the Central Tower at the 30-minute mark, securing their fourth objective and opening up a 26,000-point lead.

Starting at the 8-minute mark, W2F began pressuring MDS’ home tower, where four guards were stationed. More W2F players gradually relocated into the area, and MDS repeatedly failed to destroy those incoming relocations before they were completed. That forced MDS to keep pulling additional players from spawn to defend their home tower, draining manpower that could have been used to reinforce the Central Tower or mount a counterattack elsewhere. Over time, MDS simply bled resources across the map while W2F maintained pressure everywhere. W2F finally captured the home tower at the 37-minute mark, giving them control of all five objectives, but by then they were already ahead by roughly 40,000 points, making the capture little more than the finishing touch.

💠Summary

W2F defeated MDS 100,000 to 20,400, with Zoro earning MVP. MDS actually made several sound decisions early, including conceding the Central Tower to overload the two outer objectives and compensate for their attendance deficit, though they could have left only one guard at their home tower and sent the extra manpower to Tower 1. Their poor performance there put them behind almost immediately. W2F capitalized well on their superior numbers, rotating into the center after securing the outer towers and then using their excess manpower to invade MDS’ home tower, forcing MDS to stay defensive and preventing any real comeback attempt. W2F improves to 6–1, while MDS falls to 5–2.
