🔷 Introduction
Welcome to part 19 of my new Tengu series. This will be inspired by the new release of Tengu in our game and incorporating his legend within the realm of Norheim.
His story will be roughly based on his historical legend with a twist from within the game we know and love. I will be bringing 1 or 2 new episodes per week so stay tuned for more!
🔷 Recap Part 18: “What the Guardians Left Behind ”
After receiving a mysterious warning from the awakened soul within the Thorn Armor, Tengu learned from Ninetails that an ancient prophecy foretold the return of the Devourer if the Briar Titan ever awakened again. Hidden records beneath the village shrine revealed a terrifying truth.
The Devourer had never been destroyed, only sealed away, and the signs of its return were already appearing across the world through corruption, dying forests, and vanishing spirits. Among the ancient records, Tengu discovered a map leading to the lost Guardian Ruins, where answers about the growing darkness might still remain.
As he touched the map, the Thorn Armor granted him a vision of a ruined city and a pair of glowing red eyes waiting beyond a massive stone gate.
🔷 Part 19: “The Bone Warden”
Far from the village, beyond the mountains marked upon the ancient map, a forgotten city slept beneath a sea of stone.
The ruins had stood untouched for centuries.
Broken towers pierced the dark sky.
Weathered statues lined empty streets.
Once, this place had been the heart of the guardians' civilization.
Now it was little more than a graveyard.
Deep beneath the city rested a chamber hidden from the world.
Massive pillars stretched upward into darkness.
Ancient chains hung from the ceiling.
Strange symbols glowed faintly across the stone floor.
At the center stood a colossal gate.
Its surface was carved with thousands of protective runes.
The seal that had held for generations was beginning to crack.
Thin fractures spread across the stone.
Dark mist seeped through the gaps.
A low rumble echoed through the chamber.
The gate trembled.
One of the ancient chains snapped.
The sound thundered through the darkness.
Then silence returned.
For several moments nothing moved.
Then two red lights appeared beyond the gate.
Eyes.
Watching.
Waiting.
A skeletal hand emerged from the darkness.
Long fingers wrapped around the broken edge of the seal.
Slowly, a towering figure stepped forward.
Its body was covered in ancient armor forged from blackened bone.
A tattered cloak hung from its shoulders.
Its skull resembled that of a giant beast, crowned with jagged antlers.
Green fire burned within its hollow eye sockets.

The creature stood motionless as it studied the chamber.
The Bone Warden had awakened.
Long ago, before the final battle against the Devourer, the Bone Warden had been one of its greatest servants.
While other monsters sought destruction, the Bone Warden hunted those who stood against its master.
It had tracked guardian champions across entire kingdoms.
No prey escaped its pursuit.
When the guardians sealed away the Devourer, they trapped the Bone Warden within the ruins as well.
For centuries it had remained imprisoned.
Sleeping.
Waiting.
Now the weakening seal had stirred it from its endless slumber.
The green flames inside its eyes flickered.
Ancient memories returned.
The final battle.
The fall of the guardians.
The Briar Titan.
At the thought of the titan, something unexpected happened.
The Bone Warden froze.
Far away, across mountains and forests, it sensed a familiar presence.
A fragment of power it had not felt in hundreds of years.
The soul of the Briar Titan.
Its burning gaze lifted toward the distant horizon.
The titan was gone.
Destroyed long ago.
Yet somehow its essence remained.
Alive.
The Bone Warden knelt before the sealed gate.
A deep voice echoed from beyond the stone.
It was ancient.
Cold.
Powerful enough to shake the chamber itself.
"The Thorn Bearer has awakened."
The Bone Warden lowered its head.
The voice belonged to its master.
The Devourer.
Though the seal still held, fragments of its consciousness could now reach beyond the prison.
"The heir carries the titan's soul," the voice continued.
"Find him."
The green flames brightened.
A single command.
A single purpose.
Just as it had been centuries ago.
The Bone Warden rose to its full height.
Stone cracked beneath its feet.
"The guardians failed," the Devourer's voice whispered.
"Their final champion will fail as well."
The Bone Warden turned toward the distant world beyond the ruins.
Somewhere, the Thorn Bearer walked unknowingly toward his fate.
The hunter had found its trail.
And once the Bone Warden began a hunt, it never stopped.
High above the ruins, dark clouds gathered across the night sky.
The first servant of the Devourer had returned.

And it was already coming for Tengu.
📄 Recap Questions
- What ancient servant of the Devourer awakens beneath the forgotten Guardian City?
- Why does the Bone Warden immediately become interested in Tengu after awakening?
🔷 Conclusion
Deep beneath the ancient ruins, the Bone Warden awoke as the weakening seal allowed the Devourer's influence to reach beyond its prison once more. Ordered to hunt the Thorn Bearer carrying the soul of the Briar Titan, the relentless servant began its pursuit, unaware that Tengu was already heading toward the very ruins where the darkness had begun to stir.
See you next week!
