Getting to Know Merlin

💠Introduction

Hello Friends! Merlin is one of the earlier magical damage dealers many players end up building in Infinity Kingdom. For newer players, it can be difficult knowing how to build him properly since there are several different skill, artifact, and specialisation choices available.

In this guide, we'll go over Merlin's role in a team, recommended artefacts, skill suggestions for different stages of progression, and some general tips to help players get more out of him.

Summary

💠Role in Team

Merlin's job is fairly simple. He is there to deal damage.

He works as a main AoE magical damage dealer and helps chip away at enemy teams during the fight.

One mistake newer players sometimes make is focusing only on increasing Merlin's damage stats. Damage matters, but Merlin also benefits from Energy because more Energy means more ultimate casts, and more ultimate casts usually lead to more overall damage.

💠Artifact Recommendations

Merlin's exclusive artefact, Dragon's Prophecy, helps him do more of what he already wants to do, which is cast his ultimate more often.

The Prophecy effect restores 50 Energy and heals Merlin for 2% of his maximum HP after dealing damage.

The healing is a nice bonus, but the extra Energy is usually the important part since more Energy means more ultimate casts and more damage over the course of a fight.

There are two good directions players can take when building Merlin's artifact.

Recommended setup:

Special attribute

• Annihilation

Primary stat

• Crit Rate

Secondary stats

• Magical Damage %

This setup focuses on increasing Merlin's critical hit chance while also increasing the damage those critical hits deal.

Alternative setup:

Special attribute

• Deadly

Primary stat

• Magical Attack Bonus

Secondary stats

• Magical Damage %

This setup focuses more on increasing Merlin's damage directly.

You also do not need perfect rolls straight away. Mixed combinations between these setups can still work well while improving your artefacts over time.

💠Specialisation

Out of the available options, Stormeye Spell looks like a good choice for Merlin.

Merlin performs better when he can keep using his ultimate and continue applying pressure during the fight.

💠Skill Recommendations

Recommended builds can change depending on progression, so here are some examples for different stages of the game.

Level 1-25

• Wisdom

• Meteor

• Root

This setup keeps things simple. Wisdom increases Merlin's Magical Attack while Meteor and Root add additional damage during battle.

Level 1-40

• Concentration

• Adrenaline Rush

• Annihilation

Concentration gives Merlin a permanent Magical Damage increase while Adrenaline Rush helps him gain additional Energy. Annihilation adds extra AoE magical damage throughout the fight and fits Merlin's role as a damage dealer.

Legendary Season

• Energy Mastery

• Corrosive Power

• Infinite Firepower

This setup focuses on helping Merlin cast his ultimate more often.

Energy Mastery restores extra Energy, Corrosive Power rewards repeated ultimate casts with more Energy and increased ultimate damage, while Infinite Firepower adds extra AoE damage and increases Merlin's Energy Regen Speed.

💠Summary

Merlin can help newer players get started if they are building Water teams and can provide magical damage during early progression.

As players move further into Legendary seasons though, Merlin starts struggling compared to stronger options available in the current meta. Water teams are not in a great spot right now, and Merlin is generally not an Immortal players look toward for competitive play.

That does not mean he is unusable, but players should keep expectations realistic. Merlin can help early on, but he is usually more of a stepping stone than a long-term goal.
