Infinity Kingdom Merlin's Final Choice: Margaret or Dido?

I came across this question in IKDC:

“Is it better to have Merlin and Dido or Merlin and Margaret?”

At first, it feels like a simple swap. Same carry, just changing one support.

But let me ask you this.

Have you ever had Merlin completely carry a fight… and then in the very next one, he barely shows up?

Same team. Same setup. Completely different result.

So what’s actually going on?

Is it just RNG… or is your pairing the reason your damage feels inconsistent?

Today, Merlin has a choice to make.

Do you go with Dido, who keeps everything stable?

Or Margaret, who brings more damage when things go right?

Let’s find out!

Quick Answer:

Before we go deeper, here’s the short version:

💧 Merlin with Dido gives you consistent, reliable performance.

💧 Merlin with Margaret gives you higher potential, but less consistency.

So the real question is:

Do you want steady results… or are you comfortable with risk?

How Merlin Actually Works:

Merlin’s ultimate deals 520 percent magical damage to all enemies. If the target is Chilled, that damage increases by 50 percent.

That bonus is everything.

So here’s another question you should be asking yourself:

How often are enemies actually Chilled when Merlin casts?

Because that’s what decides whether he carries… or disappears.

The Safe Choice: Dido

Let’s start with Dido.

She doesn’t compete for damage. She controls the fight.

She applies Frost Armor for nine seconds. While it’s active, enemies attacking your team have a 35 percent chance to be inflicted with Chill.

Now think about that for a second.

Every time your team gets hit, there’s another chance to apply Chill.

Not one moment. Not one skill. Repeated triggers across the entire fight.

So what does that mean for Merlin?

💧 His bonus damage condition is met more often

💧 His output becomes more predictable

💧 Your team survives longer, giving him more time to perform

Dido doesn’t increase Merlin’s damage directly.

She makes sure it actually happens.

So if you value consistency, this pairing already starts to make sense.

The Riskier Option: Margaret

Now let’s look at Margaret.

She brings damage.

Her ultimate deals 350 percent physical damage, plus another 210 percent if the target is Chilled.

That sounds strong. And it can be.

But here’s the problem.

Where is that Chill coming from?

Margaret doesn’t apply it herself.

So now both Merlin and Margaret are relying on the same condition… without guaranteeing it.

Let me ask you this.

What happens when that condition isn’t met?

💧 Merlin loses his 50 percent bonus

💧 Margaret loses her extra damage

💧 Your entire damage output drops at the same time

When it works, it looks great.

When it doesn’t, it feels like your team just didn’t show up.

Skill Comparison on Paper:

Before we even look at the results, the design difference is already clear.

Dido creates opportunities for Chill to happen throughout the fight.

Margaret rewards those opportunities… but doesn’t create them.

So which one sounds more reliable to you?

The one that depends on the condition…

or the one that enables it?

Testing the Difference:

To remove guesswork, I tested both pairings in Open Arena. This standardises levels, skills, and stats, so the results reflect synergy, not account strength.

Now ask yourself:

If both teams are equal, which pairing should perform more consistently?

Merlin and Dido Results:

Across multiple fights:

Prophecy casts ranged from around 15 to 20 per battle.

Prophecy damage ranged from approximately 11 million to over 22 million.

Merlin contributed between 45 percent and 67 percent of the team’s total damage.

The key here is consistency.

No matter the fight, Merlin stays within a strong, predictable range.

Merlin and Margaret Results:

Across multiple fights:

Prophecy casts ranged from around 12 to 23 per battle.

Prophecy damage ranged from approximately 5.7 million to 19.9 million.

Merlin contributed between 36 percent and 51 percent of the team’s total damage.

Now look at that range.

Some fights perform well. Others drop off hard.

Same Merlin. Same environment.

Different consistency.

So Who Does Merlin Choose?

Now that you’ve seen both sides, let’s bring it back to you.

Do you want:

- A setup that performs the same way every fight?

- Or one that sometimes spikes… and sometimes falls apart?

Because that’s the real difference here.

Dido gives you control and reliability.

Margaret gives you potential, but no guarantees.

Final Answer:

For most players, especially in PvP, Merlin paired with Dido is the safer and stronger choice.

Margaret can still work, especially if you’re chasing higher burst and already have Chill from another source.

But if your goal is consistency, Dido is the better partner.

Your Merlin isn’t inconsistent.

Your pairing is.

Your Turn!

So what pairing do you think is best?

Merlin with Dido, or Merlin with Margaret?
