🔷 Introduction
Welcome to part 1 of my new Tengu series. This will be inspired by the new release of Tengu in our game and incorporating his legend within the realm of Norheim.
His story will be roughly based on his historical legend with a twist from within the game we know and love.
I will be bringing 1 or 2 new episodes per week so stay tuned for more!
🔷 Part 1: “Origin Story”
High above the mortal provinces, where mist curled around cedar spires and the wind carried whispers older than memory, there stood a mountain no map could hold. The villagers below called it Kurai no Mine. The monks called it the Spine of Heaven. The spirits called it home.
Long before he was known as the Great Tengu, he was simply Raizen, a wandering swordsman who had lost more battles within himself than upon any field. He climbed the mountain seeking silence. What he found instead was judgment.
At the summit stood a torii gate carved from stone older than empires. As Raizen stepped beneath it, the wind hardened against him like a shield. Invisible hands struck at his armor. Shadows lunged from the fog. Each blow he deflected returned twice as strong. Each strike he made dissolved into mist. The mountain was not testing his strength. It was measuring his balance.

Exhausted and wounded, Raizen dropped to one knee. He drove his blade into the ground and whispered that he would not fight the wind. He would stand with it.
The mountain answered.
A presence descended, vast and unseen. It wrapped around his shoulders like a mantle and pressed against his back like wings not yet formed. The shadows that struck him faltered. When they attacked again, Raizen did not lunge. He waited. The moment their force met his guard, he turned it aside. The shadows shattered under their own weight.
From that stillness came transformation.
His armor reshaped itself into layered plates the color of storm clouds. His helm lengthened, its features sharp and fierce. His eyes burned red, not with rage but with clarity. The wind no longer resisted him. It circled him. Where it touched his wounds, the flesh closed. Where it swept across the battlefield of mist, it stripped corruption from the air.
Thus was born the Great Tengu.
He did not descend as a conqueror. He walked down the mountain as a guardian.
In the ages that followed, kingdoms rose across the Realm of Infinity. Armies clashed beneath banners of gold and iron. Among them strode immortals whose power shaped the fate of nations. Yet when lines faltered and hope thinned, a crimson masked shieldman would step forward.
Tengu did not seek the first strike. He stood at the center of his allies and invited the enemy to break upon him. Blades rang against his guard. Spears splintered against his stance. Each assault fed the storm coiled within him. When he answered, it was not with fury but with precision. A single counter cut, measured and clean, turned offense into ruin.
But his greatest strength was not in steel.
The wind that followed him carried restoration. When comrades staggered beneath curses or poison, he raised his fan and called the mountain breath. It washed over them like clear dawn. Wounds sealed. Weakness faded. Dark enchantments unraveled as though ashamed to linger in his presence.

To his enemies, he was an unmovable wall.
To his allies, he was shelter.
Yet the mountain never released its hold on him entirely. Pride still whispered in quiet hours. Power still tempted him to strike first, to dominate rather than defend. Each battle was another ascent of Kurai no Mine. Each victory was another reminder that strength without balance becomes corruption.
And so the Great Tengu remains what he chose to become that first night beneath the stone gate.
Not the storm that destroys.
But the shield that turns it aside and heals the world in its wake.
📄 Recap Questions
Why did Raizen choose to stand with the wind instead of fighting against it on the mountain summit?
How does the Great Tengu transform enemy aggression into protection and healing for his allies?
🔷 Conclusion
The origins of the Great Tengu reveal that true strength is not found in striking first, but in mastering restraint. In the Realm of Infinity, he endures as the calm within the storm, a shieldman whose balance turns destruction into renewal.
