💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 143’s Xross Guild(XGV) and Server 277’s Watch It Burn(WIB).

💠Overview
XGV versus WIB is a matchup between two 6–1 teams closing out the first phase of IBL. XGV’s only loss came against ARC, but their strength of schedule has been relatively light and they showed some inconsistency against mid-tier opponents. They typically field around 25 to 30 players each week. WIB also entered at 6–1, with their lone loss coming to AoW, and while their schedule has not been especially difficult either, they handled their opponents decisively. With stronger weekly attendance and generally cleaner IBL fundamentals, WIB should be favored heading into this match.

💠Tower 1
XGV committed 9 players to Tower 1, while WIB sent 12 with one overlap. Both teams had extremely poor initial positioning. XGV sent two players to WIB’s bottom side to attempt to block three relocations, yet they had no one properly stationed next to the tower itself. Several XGV players sat further back despite open front-row positions being available. WIB mirrored the chaos, sending three players to XGV’s right side to block a single relocation, an inefficient allocation that XGV should have been able to counter, though they conceded significant space in the process. As the top-sided team with fewer attendees, XGV should have abandoned Tower 1 entirely and overloaded Tower 4 and the Central Tower. Instead, they spread themselves thin and surrendered both space and positional leverage from the outset.

💠Tower 4
XGV sent 8 players to Tower 4 while WIB committed 10. XGV’s formation was once again poorly structured, with noticeable gaps between members and multiple open front-row spots near the tower. As the top-sided team, XGV had a natural proximity advantage to Tower 4 and several usable edge spawns that could have allowed them to block multiple WIB relocations and create an early numbers edge. Instead, they only attempted to block two. WIB’s relocations were far more organized here than at Tower 1. With tighter positioning and better spacing, they entered the objective with clearer control of the surrounding area while XGV conceded valuable real estate from the start.

💠Central Tower
WIB sent 11 players to the Central Tower. XGV opted not to contest it in the early minutes. Even though there aren’t any enemies in the middle, WIB doesn’t have to cancel any relocations. They can deploy reinforcements from the center and they can get to their destinations faster than if they had moved from their spawn.

💠Altars
XGV sent two players to the Moon Altar and one player to the Sun Altar. WIB didn’t send anyone to either altar. In my opinion, this is a waste of XGV’s time. Altars do not generate points and are really only useful for making counterattacks.
💠Home Towers
Both teams had one guard at their respective home tower.
💠Play-by-Play
XGV opened Tower 1 by blocking three relocations and destroying one, while WIB blocked one in response before XGV eliminated that blocker’s relocation as well. WIB drew first blood on the bottom side and quickly reinforced, zeroing another XGV player and pushing up to control the bottom and left sides of the tower. XGV reinforcements returned but positioned far too deep, failing to move forward even after relocation cooldowns refreshed, which allowed WIB to maintain territorial control for several minutes. When XGV finally shifted to the right side, WIB had chances to destroy those relocations but didn’t capitalize. Despite multiple WIB players standing next to the objective, XGV committed to the siege and captured Tower 1 at the 15-minute mark.

XGV opened Tower 4 by blocking two relocations but failed to capitalize on additional edge-spawn opportunities that could have widened the numbers gap. Despite their scattered positioning, they coordinated a rally to fly a target before WIB could strike first. WIB quickly responded by layering faster rallies and heavy focus fire, zeroing multiple XGV players in rapid succession. As XGV tried to push up and claim space on the right side of the tower, WIB’s rally speed and stronger defensive coverage overwhelmed them. WIB systematically eliminated targets, surrounded the objective, and secured Tower 4 at the 17-minute mark, while XGV missed several chances to destroy relocations parking directly beside them.

Starting around the mid-game, XGV attempted to pressure WIB’s home tower but lacked coordination and numbers to make it meaningful, allowing WIB to comfortably defend while maintaining control of Tower 4 and the Central Tower. WIB rotated efficiently between objectives, reinforcing weak points and blocking key relocations, while XGV struggled to capitalize on opportunities to destroy incoming reinforcements. Whenever XGV gained temporary footing near a tower, WIB responded quickly with rallies and layered solo attacks to erase the threat. With control of two major scoring objectives and superior map presence, WIB steadily extended their lead and never allowed XGV to establish control of a second tower for long, closing out the match decisively.

WIB never let Tower 1 go. They kept funneling players back to the objective, including those who had just finished defending their home tower. With XGV stretched thin between Tower 4 and their own base, they couldn’t match the steady stream of reinforcements. WIB gradually pushed them off the key tiles, zeroed most of the defenders, and took full control of the area. By the 23-minute mark, WIB recaptured Tower 1 and began snowballing the score from there.

Six minutes into the match, XGV rotated from the altars and began pressuring WIB’s home tower. WIB reacted quickly, relocating three additional defenders, but XGV destroyed one of those relocations before it could land. Two more WIB reinforcements arrived, and together they zeroed two of the initial XGV attackers. However, XGV committed harder, relocating and teleporting several more players into the area to keep the fight alive. WIB ultimately stabilized and fully repelled the invasion, restoring control. Then at the 25-minute mark, WIB made a critical mistake, every guard rotated away from the tower. XGV immediately recognized the opening, teleported three players in, and seized control of the objective. One WIB player teleported back in a last-ditch effort to defend, but he was quickly zeroed, allowing XGV to complete the steal.

At the 34-minute mark, WIB turned their attention to XGV’s home tower, where six defenders initially stood guard. As a few of them drifted out of position, WIB seized the opening and collapsed on the weakened defense. They zeroed two quickly, pushed the remaining players back, and captured the tower soon after. With their own home tower already reclaimed, WIB secured control across the map and effectively sealed the match.
💠Summary
WIB took the match 100,000 to 37,100 behind MVP Nerf Douma. XGV’s overall plan wasn’t bad, but prioritizing Tower 1 over the Central Tower was a strategic misstep, and several players wasted time hovering mid despite conceding it; that manpower should have reinforced Tower 4. Their opening relocations were especially poor—disorganized, lacking marker discipline, and too slow to move up and secure space around objectives. WIB’s starts weren’t perfect either, but they were cleaner, and they responded well at their home tower and Tower 1; however, they still have a habit of leaving captured objectives thinly defended. WIB closed the phase at 7-1, while XGV fell to 6-2.
