🔷 Introduction

Welcome to part 29 of my Wukong series. We are following three famous fire immortals and their ally Wukong, who is currently training in the arts of fire. They have had a tough journey as of late, and their adventure is only going to get harder.

📄 Recap of Part 28: Aftermath of Camelot

After defeating Morgana and Arthur, Wukong, Wu, Hippolyta, and Seondeok dismantle the throne of Camelot and establish a council to govern the kingdom, ensuring shared power and justice. With their mission complete, the four warriors leave Camelot behind, setting off on new adventures, their legacy already etched in the city's future.

🔷 Part 29:  “Cleansing a City of Lies”

As the four heroes made their way through the dense forest, the day’s journey winding down with the setting sun casting long shadows across the path, an old man appeared from between the trees. His frail form seemed to be weighed down by age, and his clothes were tattered, as though he had been wandering for days. He hobbled toward them, his hands trembling as he clutched a walking stick.

"Please," the old man croaked, his voice shaky but urgent. "I’ve heard of your deeds—of how you freed Camelot. There’s a city not far from here, one that’s in desperate need of your help. Corruption is eating it from the inside out, and the people are suffering. Please, you must help us."

The group exchanged glances, but before they could respond, a sharp sound pierced the air—a rustle of leaves, followed by the snap of twigs. Wukong’s hand tightened on his staff, his eyes narrowing, while Wu’s fingers twitched toward the hilt of her blade.

Hippolyta stood tall, her sword already drawn, and Seondeok’s expression was unreadable as she surveyed the surroundings. They were no strangers to ambushes, and this one felt all too familiar.

Without warning, figures sprang from the shadows—masked men, armed and ready to strike. The old man had lured them in with a story, a tale of desperation, and now the trap was set. But the bandits were no match for the warriors.

Wukong spun his staff with effortless precision, knocking two of the attackers aside before spinning low to take out another. Wu, quick as a serpent, slashed with her twin blades, cutting down her foes with practiced grace. Hippolyta’s sword moved in a blur, each strike precise and deadly, while Seondeok’s spear danced through the air, piercing through the dark with the efficiency of a trained hunter.

Within moments, the attackers were scattered, their bodies lying in heaps on the forest floor. The few who remained alive were quickly bound and forced to their knees before the warriors.

"Who sent you?" Hippolyta demanded, her voice cold and commanding as she approached one of the surviving bandits.

The man trembled, his face pale with fear, but he had little choice but to speak. "We—we were hired by the council of Darvan City," he stammered. "They want to keep the city’s corruption hidden, and the looters... they’re part of the plan. The council uses them to stir chaos, to keep the people too distracted to notice what’s really going on."

Seondeok stepped forward, her eyes sharp with interest. "What’s happening in Darvan City?" she asked, her voice low and intense.

"The city’s leaders are selling out the people," the bandit continued, his eyes darting nervously toward the group. "The merchants control everything. The looters steal from the poor, and the guards do nothing. Anyone who speaks out... they disappear. The city is rotting from the inside. The corruption is deep. You have to stop it."

Wukong, having heard enough, gave a quick nod. "Thank you for the information," he said, his tone casual, but there was a spark of something darker in his golden eyes. "You’re free to go... but you won’t be free for long if you ever try this again."

The bandits scrambled to their feet, their eyes wide with fear, and fled into the woods as fast as they could. The warriors stood silently for a moment, letting the gravity of their next task settle in.

"This Darvan City sounds like it needs a little cleaning up," Wu said, her smirk returning as she sheathed her blades. "I think we’ve found our next adventure."

Hippolyta nodded in agreement, her gaze steady. "It’s time to put an end to the corruption. The people won’t stand a chance against the four of us."

With a final glance at the retreating figures of the bandits, the group turned and continued their journey. They knew the road ahead would be hard, but they were ready for whatever awaited them. They had freed Camelot, and now Darvan City would be next on their list—a city of thieves and liars, soon to be liberated from its festering rot.

The sun had dipped below the horizon, but their path was clear. The warriors set off toward Darvan City, each step taking them closer to the battle that would define their next great victory.
