Why Use Wu in an Earth March?
Can Wu Zetian's magical firepower breathe new life into Earth's traditional physical-damage dominance?
Adding Wu to an Earth march introduces a unique dynamic. With Charles and Alex providing physical damage and Zenobia offering healing and support, Wu brings balance by delivering consistent magic AoE damage. This is particularly useful in PvE events like Time Rift Spider, where clearing waves of enemies quickly is crucial. Wu's ultimate skill, Imperial Fire, deals sustained damage over time to all enemies, making her a valuable addition to counter Earth's often single-target-focused lineup.
Skill Synergy and Placement
What's the magic formula for skill synergy that turns a good march into a devastating one?
Wu Zetian: Skills like Fire Nova and Energy Burst amplify her AoE capabilities and ensure her ultimate charges faster.
Charles the Great: Defensive skills like Absolute Defense and team-protection abilities like Oaken Guard complement Wu by giving her the time and safety to unleash her magic.
Alexander the Great: Skills like Anger and Life Link make Alex a tanky yet damaging frontline, pairing well with Wu's sustained damage.
Zenobia: With healing skills and energy boosts, Zenobia keeps the march alive and ensures Wu can cast her ultimate repeatedly.
The synergy lies in balancing damage and survivability, allowing Wu to thrive while her teammates hold the frontline.
When preparing for Amplify Time Rift Spider, skill selection is critical to ensuring synergy, survivability, and maximum damage output. This march setup—featuring Wu Zetian, Zenobia, Alexander, and Charles—offers a balance of magic damage, physical damage, and robust defence, making it highly effective for PvE content. Here's why I believe these skills will work well and how I thought about placing them:
Skill Setup for Each Immortal
- Wu Zetian (Magic Damage Dealer)
Fire Nova: Adds extra AoE damage to supplement her Rain of Fire, amplifying her ability to clear multiple targets quickly.
Energy Burst: Increases her casting speed, allowing her ultimate to activate earlier in battle for immediate impact.
Malice: Reduces enemy energy recovery, delaying their ultimates and giving your march an edge in sustained battles.
Why It Works: Wu's high magic damage output is the backbone of this march. Fire Nova complements her ultimate, while Malice keeps enemies from countering your march too early.
2. Zenobia (Support & Healing)
Wine & Dine: It has a 50% chance of increasing the damage output of the target you heal.
Defence Blessing: Boosts your entire march's defences, ensuring better survivability.
Adrenaline Rush: Speeds up her energy recovery, enabling frequent use of her ultimate for consistent healing and support.
Why It Works: Zenobia's role is to keep the team alive with healing and defence. Defence Blessing ensures your march stays operational, while Adrenaline Rush keeps her ultimate readily available.
3. Alexander the Great (Frontline Damage Dealer)
Anger: Boosts his physical damage, making him a more potent threat.
Life Link: Allows Alex to share his damage mitigation across the team, reducing the risk of any immortal from being singled out.
Fighting Will Provides additional physical damage and a chance to root, and control enemy units and protect your march.
Why It Works: Alex's offensive capabilities combined with Life Link create a balance of durability and damage output. Shield Bash helps mitigate enemy threats during critical moments.
4. Charles the Great (Tank & Secondary Support)
Absolute Defense: Provides him with an extra defensive layer, ensuring he remains standing to shield the team.
Oaken Guard: Reduces physical damage taken by your team, complementing Zenobia's defensive boosts.
Shelter: Heals Charles when his health drops below the specified threshold, along with the rest of his unit. This ability helps sustain Charles, allowing him to function as a tank for a longer duration during battles against these challenging Spiders.
Why It Works: Charles ensures that your march has a sturdy frontline. His defensive and self-healing skills give the team time to unleash their damage and manage the Spider's mechanics.
Why This Combination Works
Synergy
Wu's AoE magic damage complements Alex and Charles' physical damage, making the march versatile against mixed enemy types.
Zenobia’s healing and debuff removal stabilize the team, allowing Wu ideally to consistently deal damage and Alex/Charles to maintain their frontline roles.
Balance of Offense and Defense
Wu and Alex focus on damage, while Charles and Zenobia handle survival and support. This balance ensures your march can endure the Spider's mechanics and clear its minions effectively.
Skill Placement Thought Process
I chose skills that maximize each immortal's strengths while covering potential weaknesses. For instance, Zenobia's healing and Charles' defence compensate for Wu's lack of durability. Similarly, Alex and Charles' stuns and defense-sharing provide crowd control and damage mitigation, giving Wu time to charge her ultimate.
Enhancing with Exclusive Artifacts (EA)
How does Wu's EA take her performance from good to better?
Wu’s Enhanced Attack increases her critical hit rate and magic attack, both of which directly enhance the power of her ultimate skill. Prioritizing crit damage and magic attacks on her EA ensures she can deal massive damage in PvE scenarios. This is especially useful in extended battles like Infernal Assault, where her sustained damage can whittle down enemies over time.
Immortal Tree considerations
The Immortal Talent Tree for Wu Zetian focuses on talents that enhance her magic damage and control abilities. Prioritize talents that increase her skill damage, energy recovery, and magic penetration to maximize her effectiveness in dealing damage and controlling the battlefield. Only briefly touched on this topic for it maybe something to discuss for another day.
Alternative Skills and Adaptations
What if you don't have premium skills—can this march still perform?
F2P Alternatives: Skills like Adrenaline Rush for Zenobia and Malice for Wu offer viable options for players without access to premium Triss skills.
Triss Skills: While not necessary, Triss skills like Spring of Life or Purification could elevate this march build. Or Infinite Firepower would look to increase Wu Magical Dmg while increasing her regen speeding. This would mean her Ultimate skill would work quicker and pack a fireball to 3 enemies.
Potential to work on Wu to increase Dmg output, but will need to synergise with rest of the march. Also, this is an expensive Skill to get just for 1 event. If deciding this Skill is worth your investment then it needs to pay it’s way in PvP and work within your main march.
Players can obtain these skills through Wisdom Well, purchasing Goddess gifts or the Recharge packs. Another way will be to collect KvK skill shards and trade them in for cinders so you can buy your desired skill in the Wish shop.
Adaptability is key—experiment with skill combinations to find what works best for your specific march and playstyle.
Ideas to consider
What lessons can you take from this experiment to improve your own PvE performance?
Pros
Wu adds much-needed AoE magic damage to Earth, balancing its physical-damage focus. This makes the march more versatile and effective in PvE events.
Cons
Wu is reliant on her EA and skills to shine, which might require additional investment. Without proper synergy, the march may struggle in PvP or against certain event mechanics.
Pink arrows show the Overall Dmg dealt of Fire and Earth march. The Yellow arrows represent, Wu-Earth and Fire with under developed Cyrus. Again, the Variables are not similar, but this iindicates higher Dmg than that of Wu-Earth in article 1 of this topic. Again, we must bare in mind that skills, immortal boosts, EAs and Dragon Talents are not maxed, this will be a factor.
Example of a report, highlighting how changing of some vairables can increase Dmg. Here the Earth Dragon Talent is more developed, the aim, for dragons Stun effect to work better. To provide more sustainability to the march to allow Wu to fire off her Ult. skill quicker. She has a high regen number so it would be a shame to over look this. I have also changed the skills on this march, in part because I didn’t have all that i have suggested in the article. But, I find it will be interesting to see if any of you try the skill formation and post your successes or failures. All helps to inform our knowledge and experimentation, the skills I used were:
Wu - Annihilation, Energy Burst, and Concentration
Zenobia - Death Breath, Assist, Berserk
Alex - Anger, Combo & Cleave
Charles - Adrenaline Rush, Physical Shield and Absolute Defence
I am looking to increase my battle time, improve Healing especially the frontline immortals ( protect the back so Wu fires her cannons) speed up energy regen ( Ult. Skills to work quicker) and iimprove Dmg dealt.
Next Task: Improve on Wu Dmg output, it is half that of Alex, with her Ult.skill firing of 6 hits and 1 only being critical. I need to up my crit rate, 1 hit = 1.3 mil dmg, but only had accuracy rate of 17%. Back to the drawingboard with this March. Though I do need to remember that this Wu is not maxed. So, if I work on her Agility, troop numbers and her EA, I might improve my overall Dmg in this march build!
Alternative Strategies
Players who lack Triss skills or premium options can still build a competitive Wu-centered march using F2P skills and strategic experimentation.
- Experiment and Adapt: This skill setup is a strong starting point, but PvE battles like the Amplify Time Rift Spider require flexibility. Observe how your march performs and adjust skills to fit specific challenges.
- Prioritize Synergy: Always ensure that skills complement each other. For example, Wu's damage output is maximized when her allies can protect her and keep the team stab
- Use F2P Skills Wisely: Even without premium skills, this setup can deliver excellent results with thoughtful planning and understanding of each skill's mechanics.
- By focusing on synergy, survivability, and strategic skill placement, this march build offers an efficient and competitive way to tackle Amplify Time Rift Spider and similar PvE challenges. Let me know how this setup works for you, and happy experimenting!
- Optimize Wu's EA for maximum AoE magic damage impact.
- Leverage the Earth Dragon's skills to balance offence and defence.
- Test alternative builds and adapt to the needs of specific events.
- Invest in ToK skills that align with your team's strengths.
Could this be an alternative skill for Wu?
With continued investment and experimentation, this march can become a cornerstone of your PvE strategy, offering consistent performance across a range of events while opening the door to creative variations for future challenges.
