WAO vs OBV: The uncompromised struggle in the shadow of big war

Welcome to the 18th season of Ultimate Conquest. The tournament got a second life after its unchangeable champion DEP disbanded after the 16th season and we had a pretty interesting and exciting 17th season full of balanced and thrilling battles. Instead of one alliance dominating the event there were a few competitors for the champions title. The 18th season already became even more interesting than the previous one. It is clear that after massive migration of players during 17th season instead of “never ending” rivalry of DEP and BDR we got new champion WTF with BDR being so close to their first title as well but also there are WxC, N3O and HOH posing a serious threat to any of two finalists of 17th season.  But the Ultimate Tournament isn't only about the main contenders for the champions title. There are interesting and pretty balanced battles between smaller alliances taking place in the shadow of main events and even those actors dont have champion ambitions but still pretend to get their place under the sun. One of such battles happened between WAO and OBV. 

The WAO alliance is one of oldtimers in Westeros. They do their way “slow and steady” so the history of WAO never was full of bright pages nevertheless the alliance continues to slowly climb up and even sometimes it might seem that life in WAO completely froze up and the alliance is like a marble statue that isn't true. “Slow and steady”, year after year, WAO keeps making its “turtle” march to the top ranks of Seven Kingdoms. Sometimes they get their ticket to the final stage of main events, sometimes they don't. This season WAO got into Ultimate Conquest again but also the alliance got good reinforcement from GCM that lost their chances to get into UC in 5th round of Alliance conquest and instead of that joint forces with WAO

The OBV alliance rose up on k34 and since that moment got on a straight way up aiming to become one of the best alliances in Westeros. Suddenly at some point something had happened inside OBV and instead to keep up their ascension the alliance fell apart, losing a big part of its prominent players. It was black day in OBV history, a lot of the best fighters changed their colors and OBV was on the brink of extinction. Anything could happen to OBV at that point but instead of disappearing like many other alliances would do after such misfortune, OBV managed to get out of the storm and rebuild their alliance rising from ashes like a phoenix.

By the rules of Old Gods introduced at 17th season of Ultimate conquest only 70 warriors of the same alliance can step on the glorious battlefield near legendary castle Casterly Rock. The place where such famous heroes like Jaime, Tyrion and Cercei Lannister were born, the place where Ultimate Conquest now takes place and where alliances of Westeros meet each other to fight to death to find out who is the best in Seven Kingdoms. Let the battle begin!

The battle has started with nearly equal gainings. WAO Francuzik and Zap 00 were first to take over both Lannister and Targaryen Outposts, while OBV focused on Temples and Kazeh together with Queen Shera got under their control Temple of Mother and Warrior respectively. The thing is that even WAO got fortresses providing more points OBV got both Temples that since the new season give an additional bonus of 10 troop total attack. At first it might seem as not so big deal and if one of the sides has serious advantage it will be this way but when you have nearly equal enemies such boost can play main role in alliance’s way to the victory as it changes power of all rally leaders and instead of equality one side becomes stronger than their counterpart. 

When the next stage of battle had come and the magic of Old Gods lifted off protective bubbles from the ports, OBV took over both Lannister and Targaryen ports indicating their dominance. To make it clear even WAO started the battle with equality to the moment when ports lost protection WAO already lost both Lannister and Targaryen outposts while OBV was only increasing their pressure more and more so after a while there was nothing belonging to WAO anymore. Such strong dominance of one team may transform into complete win even at an early stage of the battle if the opposite side won't find resources to turn the tide and break suffocating embraces of their enemy. The battle that started for WAO on a not so bad note pretty fast started to change into a complete disaster. Things were bad and the WAO team was in desperate need to change something and do it fast.

After previous failures WAO was in need of “a small victorious war” to boost their morale and even OBV almost closed the window of opportunities by capturing Casterly Rock Sir John Doe became a hero of the day and like a crouching tiger landed unexpected strike when OBV tried to swap its defender and snatched the fortress for his alliance. When all is lost or almost lost, even a small spark can start a big fire. Never give up, never surrender.

It seemed that the WAO alliance that almost gave up got a second life and started to attack OBV fortresses with double or even triple power. Suddenly OBV leadership discovered they were unable to hold any fortresses for long even half of the battle they were able to do it. While they tried to regain control of Casterly Rock, WAO warriors struck into Lannister Outpost and Port and conquered both of them at the same time, still being able to hold Casterly. Even OBV warriors got shocked with such a change when their dominance evaporated like dew in the sun they still were pretty much ahead by score so after some time they came to their senses and started to counterattack to not let WAO take full control of the battlefield that they had just not so long ago. The slow and measured battle suddenly turned into a series of furious counter attacks where both sides sought to take everything from the enemy while not bothering so much to defend the already captured fortresses. For a moment, chaos reigned over the battlefield. 

As many times it happened before, the fate of the battle had to be decided at mines and even Old Gods changed balance and reduced points that alliances can gain from the mines as they became too crucial and sometimes alliances that were winning the battle suddenly lost everything, just because the opposite side took over the mines, still mines have serious value and able to provide a lot of points and change the outcome of the battle if one of the sides doesn't have decisive advantage.

Unfortunately that day the Fortune wasn't on their side, taking into account OBV was possessing serious advantage the only option for WAO was to snatch both Targaryen and Lannister mines and hold them taking all points but OBV not only was faster and took both of them but also changed defender of Lannister mine to their strongest warrior IronFist. 

Understanding the almost inevitable defeat, WAO Lords and Ladies made their last effort and kept fighting despite the fearful odds. Even mines were reinforced properly OBV reduced defense of the other fortresses where WAO redirected their attacking actions and successfully took over Lannister port and Outpost painting them into their colors and gaining just a bit more prestige for their alliance. It was the end, the time was running out and the outcome of the battle was a foregone conclusion.

The battle ended with OBV emerging victorious while WAO got defeated. OBV was able to advance to the next stage and reinforce their desire to fight and improve while trying to recover their former glory. As for the WAO it also was a success as alliance not only managed to get into Ultimate conquest but also advanced to 3rd stage of it and even it might seem that that is far away from champions title and yet this is also a good achievement as “turtle” doing its way “slow and steady” and maybe one day we will see it climbing up to the top of the mountain.
