Introduction
Weirwood Memories, WWM for short, is one of the classic recurring events in Game of Thrones Winter is Coming. Though it’s been around for a long time, the event recently received a new component that brings an extra challenge for top accounts.
The event runs for a total of 8 days:
● 7 days of gameplay, where players can actively participate in battles.
● 1 additional day dedicated solely to reward collection, during which only the event shop remains open.
WWM follows a some fixed monthly schedule, starting on the 2nd Monday of every month, making it one of the more predictable events on the GoTWiC calendar.

Game Modes:
There are two main modes in Weirwood Memories: the classic stages and the newer Nightmare mode.
Classic Stages: Normal → Elite → Epic
The three classic stages are directly linked, meaning you must clear each equivalent level in a lower tier before unlocking it in the next one.
For example, to access Elite 1-1, you must first complete Normal 1-1, and so on.
The battles themselves are almost identical across tiers, with the main difference being that enemy commanders and their dragon become stronger as difficulty increases.
Ideally, you’ll want to clear all stages and reach the final fight in Epic (3-15), which is a great level to repeatedly Blitz for Weirwood Tokens (the event’s main currency).
If you can’t make it that far, progress as much as possible and then check which stage gives you the highest Token yield per run. Remember, sometimes a lower level in a higher tier will reward more Tokens than a higher level in a lower tier.
For example:
● Elite 2-15 gives 325 Tokens
● Epic 3-12 also gives 325 Tokens
Since there are unlimited attempts, feel free to experiment with different lineups and commander combinations to find what works best.
Nightmare Mode
Nightmare mode introduces a more strategic challenge. You can bring only 10 commanders from your entire roster, making lineup planning crucial. A well balanced team of tanks/healers and DPS is key to clearing it.
One major difference is that dead commanders remain unavailable until the next daily reset, limiting your total attempts. After reset, you can update your roster of 10 commanders, but the selection stays locked for the day, so careful planning is essential.

Gameplay Mechanics / Tips and Tricks
The Weirwood Memories event may look straightforward, but a few smart habits can make a big difference in how efficiently you progress and how many rewards you collect.
● Use the Blitz Function
The Blitz feature is one of the best quality-of-life tools in WWM. Use it freely to auto-clear stages that your commanders can easily handle. This can save a lot of time.

Some of the last stages in Epic can be a bit tricky but here are some formations that have worked well for me in the past:

● Focus on Quests and Daily Objectives
Complete as many storyline quests as possible. They grant extra Tokens.
Don’t skip the daily quests either: each milestone gives Tokens.
Since the event shop offers many useful items, the more Tokens you earn, the more rewards you can buy.

● Combine with Daily Event Phases
If you want to optimize even further, time your WWM battles to coincide with the Lord and Dragon phase from the Daily Event. WWM battles grat Lord XP, which translates into points for that day’s event stage. An easy way to double dip rewards.
● Use Your Dragon Strategically
With the latest updates, dragons can now participate in Weirwood Memories. Make sure to use the one that best fits each stage. For example, Shadowmoon’s healing debuff can be incredibly useful against enemies with strong sustain.
Level 70 Darkfyre and Shadowmoon skills look like this, but as the tooltip explains, they can increase as the dragons grow. At equal levels Shadowmoon is clearly a better pick in terms of raw damage and it adds a heal debuff on top.

● Nightmare Mode!
In Nightmare Mode, commander survival is a lot more important. If one of your commanders dies, you should reset the fight immediately. The game only records progress when the battle ends, so resetting prevents the death from being saved. 😉
If a commander does die and you let the fight finish, they’ll remain unavailable until the daily game reset. You’ll either have to wait for them to revive or adjust your lineup with your remaining commanders.

There are several formations that can be used here but the one with the lowest commanders is probably the one Rowell compiled here:

The Shop
The Weirwood Memories Shop offers a good range of rewards for all types of players. While you won’t find the top SS-tier (“Red”) items here, there are still plenty of valuable options. From commander medals and Tokens, to Exclusive Album Chests or Friendship chests.

Whether you’re a casual player looking to strengthen your PvP lineup or a veteran chasing upgrades in the Tavern, the shop has something worthwhile for everyone.

Spending real money
There’s no direct pay-to-win element in this event. Unlike newer events, Weirwood Memories doesn’t include any packs or daily purchase options that give paying players an advantage.
The only “indirect” benefit real spenders have is from their stronger commander lineup. Since having more powerful or higher star commanders (and dragons) naturally makes the event easier to clear. Still, even free-to-play players can make excellent progress with smart planning and persistence.
Final Thoughts
Weirwood Memories is one of the oldest events in the game that’s gotten some updates over time. Despite its age, the developers have managed to keep it fresh through balanced additions like the Nightmare mode, which adds a new challenge with some exclusive rewards.
It also remains one of the few reliable sources for Hector Medals and Friendship Chests, and now, with the Nightmare mode, it’s the exclusive source of O’Biehn’s weapon: Windsong.
Overall, Weirwood Memories stands out as a rewarding, skill-based event that values planning and perseverance over spending, offering meaningful rewards for every level of player.
