💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? With so many skill options, it can become difficult to know which skill to equip over another. In this article, we’ll take a look at two similar normal-attack skills, Cleave and Assembly Charge, compare their damage output in the same setup, and determine how much stronger Assembly Charge is than Cleave for Alexander.

💠Cleave
Cleave is a free Epic passive skill that unlocks when the Tower of Knowledge reaches level 31, making it one of the most accessible and valuable Physical Damage skills in the game. At max level, every normal attack has a 75% chance to deal additional Physical Damage with a 75% damage factor to two nearby enemy units. Since it triggers from normal attacks, Cleave works especially well on Physical Damage Immortals with high Attack Speed or additional normal-attack effects, such as Alexander and Hannibal Barca, allowing them to repeatedly spread damage across multiple enemies throughout a battle. Its biggest advantage is accessibility, as players can obtain it naturally through Tower of Knowledge progression without needing to spend Legion currency on skill fragments.

💠Assembly Charge
Assembly Charge is an Epic passive skill with no position limit that also triggers from normal attacks. At max level, each normal attack has a 60% chance to deal Physical Damage at a 75% damage rate to the target and two nearby enemies, while also increasing the user’s Physical Damage by 10% for six seconds. Unlike Cleave, Assembly Charge is not unlocked through Tower of Knowledge progression alone; players must reach Tower of Knowledge level 52 and obtain 60 Assembly Charge skill fragments, which can be purchased from the Legion’s Vendor shop for 48,000 Cold Silver. This makes Assembly Charge a later-game investment, but its advantage is that it provides both its own area damage and a Physical Damage increase that can strengthen the user’s other Physical Damage effects at the same time.

💠Damage Comparison
To keep the comparison fair, I used the same setup and the same skills on all other Immortals, with Alexander as the primary test subject because he makes excellent use of both Cleave and Assembly Charge and is commonly used by many players. When normalized to battles averaging around one minute, Assembly Charge clearly outperformed Cleave as a direct damage skill. In the Cleave-only setup, Cleave averaged about 12.5 million damage per minute, while adding Assembly Charge increased Cleave to about 15.3 million damage per minute, an increase of roughly 2.8 million damage per minute, or about 22%, which makes sense because Assembly Charge gives the user an additional Physical Damage boost. Assembly Charge itself averaged about 19.7 million damage per minute, which was roughly 4.4 million more than Cleave in the same setup, or about 29% higher. This means Assembly Charge provided value in two ways at once: it dealt more direct damage than Cleave while also increasing Cleave’s own damage output. Cleave still has an important role because it is free and much easier to obtain, but once Assembly Charge becomes available, the testing shows that it provides the stronger overall damage contribution for Alexander.

💠Verdict
Assembly Charge is the stronger skill for Alexander’s normal-attack build, but Cleave remains one of the best accessible options for players who have not unlocked it yet. In these tests, Assembly Charge dealt about 29% more damage than Cleave in the same setup while also increasing Cleave’s damage by roughly 22% through its Physical Damage boost. For players already using Cleave, Assembly Charge is not simply a replacement but an upgrade that works alongside it, adding a stronger source of direct damage while also improving the performance of Cleave itself. Considering its 48,000 Cold Silver cost, Assembly Charge is worth prioritizing for players who regularly use Alexander or similar high-Attack Speed Physical Damage Immortals, while Cleave remains the better value for earlier-stage players because it requires no additional currency investment.
