💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 398’s Kittens of Valor(Kov) and Server 414’s Better Than Expected(BTE).

💠Overview
KoV entered the matchup with a perfect 3–0 record, though their unbeaten start came against relatively weaker opposition. They also performed well last season, finishing 42nd overall, showing they are a capable and disciplined team. Their opponent, BTE, entered at 5–1 after a top-10 finish last season and is competing in just its second IBL campaign. Unlike KoV, BTE's victories have come against stronger competition, making their record even more impressive. With both alliances typically fielding similar attendance each week, BTE appeared to have the edge on paper and entered the match as the favorite.

- 11 Attack talents
- 5 Defense talents

💠Tower 1
At Tower 1, KoV committed eight players while BTE sent seven, but four of BTE's relocations overlapped each other. At least two of those players should have immediately canceled and repositioned, as the overlap severely limited BTE's presence around the objective. The misplay handed KoV control of two sides of the tower and gave them a significant effective numbers advantage despite the similar attendance. BTE put themselves in a difficult position before the fighting even began, leaving KoV in an excellent spot to secure the objective.

💠Tower 4
At Tower 4, both teams committed six players, though BTE had one overlapping relocation. The two alliances initially contested the bottom-right corner of the tower, but their positioning differed significantly. BTE's players were spread out across the area, making it more difficult to support one another, while KoV maintained a much tighter formation. That more condensed positioning gave KoV better opportunities to coordinate attacks and rallies during the opening engagement.

💠Central Tower
At the Central Tower, KoV committed three players while BTE sent five. Both teams also had one player attempting to relocate onto the enemy's side of the objective. If either side had executed that relocation correctly, they would have been able to destroy the opposing relocation before it completed, potentially swinging the opening engagement. On paper, however, BTE held the advantage with their superior numbers and should have been favored to control the early fight in the center.

💠Altars
KoV didn’t send anyone to either altar. BTE sent one player to the Sun Altar.
💠Home Towers
KoV stationed one guard at their home tower. BTE had three at theirs and sent another player to KoV’s home tower. The relocation should get destroyed if KoV’s guard is paying attention, making BTE waste three minutes.
💠Play-by-Play
At Tower 1, two BTE players wisely canceled their overlapping relocations to avoid blocking their teammates, but the adjustment came too late to change the outcome. KoV destroyed one relocation and immediately focused their attacks on the closest BTE players. With no defenders left adjacent to the objective, KoV captured the tower uncontested. They then relocated another player to reinforce the area and quickly zeroed two more BTE players. After losing the opening fight so decisively, BTE would have been better off abandoning Tower 1 and rotating those players to the Central Tower, where they could have applied meaningful pressure. Instead, they remained at Tower 1, were picked off one by one, and contributed little to the rest of the match.

At Tower 4, BTE canceled one relocation while successfully blocking one of KoV's. In this situation, however, canceling was unnecessary. When only overlapping with a single teammate, it is usually faster to let that teammate temporarily block the relocation rather than canceling and starting over. Both alliances quickly transitioned into rallies, but KoV's higher player count around the objective gave them more spare marches to commit to offense. KoV captured the tower while simultaneously zeroing the nearest BTE defender, immediately swinging the fight in their favor. BTE continued sending reinforcements to the outskirts of Tower 4, but KoV maintained a strong perimeter and kept them at arm's length, never allowing them to mount a serious challenge for the objective.

In the center, BTE failed to destroy one of KoV's relocations, while KoV successfully destroyed one of BTE's. Despite being surrounded by three opponents, the lone KoV defender held out remarkably well as his teammates inflicted more damage on BTE than he received. KoV scored the first zero of the fight, though BTE answered with one of their own shortly afterward. As the battle intensified, more KoV players rotated into the center while BTE's reinforcements arrived slightly earlier. BTE began surrounding the tower, but repeatedly advanced one player at a time, allowing KoV to isolate and zero them before their teammates could provide support. That lack of coordination prevented BTE from ever establishing control despite their numerical advantage. KoV gradually forced BTE farther from the objective, fully surrounded the Central Tower, and captured it 15 minutes into the match.

While the fierce battle raged in the center, BTE forced KoV to commit more and more reinforcements to the Central Tower while quietly sending additional players back to Tower 4. Through persistence, BTE gradually wore KoV down, surrounded the objective, pushed the defenders away, and finally captured Tower 4 at the 20-minute mark. Despite losing the tower, KoV's superior control of the other three objectives had already built them a 20,000-point lead. Looking to capitalize, BTE committed even more heavily to the Central Tower, but in doing so left their home tower exposed. KoV immediately punished the overcommitment, capturing both Tower 3 and reclaiming Tower 4. BTE ultimately lost both of their remaining objectives and still failed to secure the Central Tower, allowing KoV to maintain complete control of the match.

💠Summary
KoV defeated BTE 100,000 to 25,600, with Sven earning MVP. Although both alliances began the match with similar attendance, KoV's opening deployment was significantly better. They intentionally undermanned the Central Tower to overload both outer objectives, yet still held their ground in the middle long enough for reinforcements to arrive. BTE likely would have been better served conceding Tower 4 and concentrating their forces at Tower 1 and the Central Tower instead. Instead, they committed too many players to Tower 4, lost it quickly anyway, and struggled to recover. Throughout the match, BTE's rotations and rallies were slower, they stationed too many players in low-impact areas such as their home tower during the opening minutes, and repeated relocation overlaps forced players to either cancel or block one another, costing valuable time. With the victory, KoV improved to 4–0, while BTE fell to 5–2.
