When I first saw patch 2.9.5, I’m not gonna lie, my first thought was basically: wait, are we dating immortals now?
And honestly, I hope I’m not the only one who thought that too. You can now give gifts to immortals, raise affinity, unlock story, and get rewards out of it. So yes, the first impression I got was definitely giving that kind of vibe.
But once you read further into it, the patch is actually doing something else.
This is not just some random joke feature. This patch feels more like IK finally trying to add something new to the game instead of doing the usual thing again with another immortal or another repeated event.
⚜️So… are we actually dating immortals now?
Not really.
What they added is Immortal Affinity. You give gifts, raise affinity, unlock story, and get rewards from it. So yes, I get why people would think that at first, but it is still more of a progression feature than some full dating system.
To me, it looks more like IK adding story, rewards, and another thing players can show off later.
⚜️So what does the Affinity feature actually do?
The patch note explains it pretty simply.
🔹 You give gifts to specific immortals to raise affinity with them
🔹 When affinity reaches certain levels, you can claim rewards and unlock extra story content
🔹 If you reach affinity level 30, you also get rare insignia rewards
So that is why I do not think this is just some random side feature for fun. Yes, the first impression gives that “dating” kind of vibe, but once you look at what it actually gives, it is clearly tied to the new insignia system too.
⚜️And that is where the real patch starts
Because for me, the bigger part of this update is not even the joke. It is the fact that IK is actually adding new feature content for once.
Instead of just:
🔹 New immortal
🔹 Repeated event
🔹 Red skill
We are getting:
🔹 Affinity
🔹 Insignias
🔹 Battle of Asteria
🔹 And season timing changes
That is what makes this patch a bit different from the previous ones.
⚜️What about the Insignia system?
This is probably the part that matters the most long-term.
Because once something starts giving account-wide value and affects all immortals, then it is not just some side feature anymore. That becomes progression.
And from the way they describe it in the patch note, it also sounds like something you can show off on your Lord profile and Lord Card too. So not only stats, but also another show off system.
Which honestly fits IK perfectly. The game already likes giving people things to show off:
🔹 Castle decorations
🔹 Profile frames
🔹 Teleports
🔹 Nameplates
⚜️So what is Battle of Asteria then?
This is another new part of the patch that should not get ignored.
From the patch note, Battle of Asteria is a new server-wide challenge event. You can do it alone or together with your alliance, and it changes depending on the season. It has Individual Challenges and Alliance Challenges, and the alliance part only unlocks after enough players clear the individual side first.
The individual side has three modes:
🔹 Single Squad Challenge
🔹 Multi-Squad Challenge
🔹 Rally Challenge
So this is not just one simple mode with a different name. They are clearly trying to make it more of a full event system. It also has its own rewards and shop currency, which can be used for things like Resource Selection Chests and Immortal Affinity items.
⚜️The 14 days to 7 days part is where opinions will split
This one really depends on the player, and it only applies to Conquest and Legendary servers.
On one side, shorter off-season is nice. Less waiting, faster migration, faster start, faster into the next cycle.
But on the other side, if you came out of KVK completely cooked and lost a ton of troops, then one week is not much time at all.
At the same time though, it is not like you go straight from off-season into instant fighting. You still have more waiting before Zone 2 opens, and even more if your opponent is far away and you need Zone 3 to actually reach them. So there is still extra time there too.
So for me, this part is not fully bad or fully good.
It is more like:
🔹 Good for players who hate dead time
🔹 Worse for players who need more recovery
🔹 Manageable if you keep training constantly
⚜️What I think players will really care about
After the joke wears off, I think people will care more about:
🔹 How Affinity actually works
🔹 What kind of story we get
🔹 How useful insignias really are
🔹 And whether Battle of Asteria is actually worth doing
Because that is the real test of the patch.
Not whether it looks funny on announcement day, but whether these systems actually add something worth caring about after the patch settles in.
⚜️So what do I think?
To me, patch 2.9.5 is not really about “Infinity Dating”.
That is just the easy joke.
The real thing here is that IK is finally trying to add something new to the game that is not just another immortal or another recycled event. And honestly, I think that part matters way more than the meme headline.
