💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome to this month’s edition of Winners and Losers for Patch 2.8.8. Patch 2.8.8 will be released on Thursday, October 16. The patch contains the long awaited Castle 60 level increase, new features, skills, events, and several optimizations. Let’s take a look at what the patch entails, the winners and losers of this patch, as well as how the changes might affect new and seasoned players.

💠Table of Contents

  • Level 60 Cap
  • Legendary Season
  • Legendary Skill
  • Migration Conditions
  • Elemental Domain Event
  • Summary

💠Level 60 Cap

Reaching level 60 requires forging and upgrading Energy Cores, which have five tiers and three stages each and must reach stage 3 before being promoted; cores are fueled by Azure Crystals (produced at a level 55 Forge in the Legendary Season by converting Food, Wood, Stone, and Iron) and Stellar Crystals (earned from events). In addition to building caps, many systems scale to 60: resource points, Gnomes, mechanical bosses, and lord level; Immortals can be upgraded to level 60 with advancement caps raised to Tier 35; Dragons gain a level 60 cap plus new talent nodes; Barracks upgrades unlock higher-tier soldier ranks; upgrading the Tower of Knowledge unlocks new skills; Academy upgrades enable research for new technologies; new Well of Time campaigns and elite dungeons become available; and Wall fortifications can be upgraded to higher tiers. Every player has been looking forward to this release for over a year.

Winners: All players

Losers: N/A

💠Legendary Season

Only lords in the Legendary Season can unlock the level 60 cap and access related features. The Legendary Season opens October 20 at 00:00 UTC for preview servers S1–S232 and M1–M12, with the first off‑season extended to 30 days before the Legion of Frostborne event and subsequent off‑seasons set to 14 days as servers cycle within the season. Legion of Frostborne for both Conquest and Legendary Seasons is handled via alliance registration: registration is open for 72 hours after the off‑season, Alliance R6/R5 leaders may register or modify status during that window, and after the deadline alliances are auto‑matched based on activity and power and assigned to factions. Alliances that participated in the previous round may opt out, but new alliances or those that skipped the previous round cannot; alliances gaining eligibility after registration closes must wait for the next round. After the registration deadline, lords are locked to their alliance for that round—changing alliances or migrating disqualifies them from participating in that Legion of Frostborne. Temporarily leaving and then returning to the original alliance before the war period ends allows continued participation, but any lord who permanently changes alliances cannot enter the Frozen Continent for the remainder of the season. Players who have not yet gained eligibility may participate if they are in the original alliance at the registration deadline; players who join an alliance after the deadline cannot participate in that round regardless of eligibility. It is unclear as to whether alliances in the same server can be placed into different factions. If that’s the case, playing against strong one-alliance servers will be extremely difficult. Furthermore, it changes the landscape of how diplomacy will work moving forward. I think this is a poor design option that rewards specific servers and takes away from other two-alliance servers.

Winners: Strong single alliance servers

Losers: Strong and weaker multi-alliance servers

💠Legendary Skill

The new Legendary skill, Fully Prepared, grants stacking offense and defense: each normal attack increases damage dealt by 1.8% plus 0.6% per level and reduces damage taken by 1.5% plus 0.5% per level, stacking up to 10 times, and it cannot be equipped with [Counterattack]. It is limited to offensive immortals and is obtained through the Wisdom Well event. Recommended carriers include Ares, Alexander the Great, Hannibal Barca, Wukong, and Poseidon. It is especially potent on Alexander because his playstyle maximizes Wind Rage procs, allowing him to trigger Fully Prepared very rapidly and thereby amplify both his damage output and survivability in short order. Alexander already does well with Knife Through Butter. His three best-in-slot skills will be Wind Rage, Knife Through Butter, and Fully Prepared. Ares benefits to a lesser degree.

Winners: Alexander, Ares

Losers: Energy reliant immortals

💠Migration Conditions

There will be new migration rules pertaining to high-powered players. It will be governed by a daily Command Power metric: each server computes the average of its top players’ historical highest power at 00:00 UTC. If a migrating player’s historical peak power is greater than or equal to the target server’s Command Power, they must use one Special Migration Slot for entry; weaker players may migrate freely. Slot counts vary by season (3 for Season 1, 5 for Season 2, 8 for Conquest, and 8 for Legendary) and refresh when a server moves into a new season. The King can choose migration policy: “Allow Special Migration” (high‑power players may enter but must consume slots) or “Disallow Special Migration” (high‑power players are blocked entirely), and if there is no current King the system uses the King’s last saved settings. In my opinion, this is a change no one asked for and won’t benefit most players and servers. Limiting the number of migrations forces large groups to split up into different groups or wait multiple seasons to play together again.

Winners: No one

Losers: Migration groups with lots of high-powered players

💠Elemental Domain Event

The new Elemental Domain event launches on October 20 at 00:00 UTC and is available to lords in the Legendary Season with Castle level 55 or higher to obtain reforging materials and reroll attributes. It features eight elemental dungeons with the schedule Water on Monday, Fire on Tuesday, Wind on Wednesday, Lightning on Thursday, Earth on Friday, and all elements on Saturday and Sunday. Only immortals and dragons of the corresponding element may be deployed. Players have three challenge attempts per day that reset daily and can be used on any dungeons open that day. Rewards are granted after each boss fight based on the boss remaining health. This is an event reminiscent of scheduled elemental dungeons in other games. It’s an additional event that will give players more things to do. Players with diversified and built up a wide array of immortals will have an edge.

Winners: Diversified immortal portfolio

Losers: Players who indexed into specific elements

💠Summary

Patch 2.8.8 is a major endgame update: caps raised to level 60 (buildings, lords, immortals to T35, dragons, troops, tech), new Energy Cores/equipment and late‑game dungeons; Legendary Season opens Oct 20 with alliance registration and locked rosters; migrations use daily Command Power and limited Special Slots; Elemental Domain adds daily element dungeons (3 tries/day); and the Fully Prepared Legendary skill plus quality-of-life and matchmaking/migration optimizations are included.
