💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Ten Point Phase match between Server 340’s Crimson Outlaws(CO) and Server 369’s Reckless(RS). RS’ positions in this match will be denoted in green while CO’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Both alliances come from servers that are relatively young and have not had much time or experience in IBL matches. One of these teams won’t make the playoffs, but these first eight matches will serve to be invaluable experience for them come next season. RS usually fields about 15-20 players every week, while CO has almost double that. CO should be favored to win this match.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

CO

  • Started with 22 players and ended with 31
  • 18 Attack talents
  • 4 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

RS

  • Started with 16 players and ended with 19
  • 10 Attack talents
  • 5 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

💠Tower 1

RS sent only five players to Tower 1 while CO overloaded it with over half of their starting roster. CO had two overlaps. Three of their players tried to move into RS’ side of the tower to block their relocations. If RS positions properly with their edge spawns, they should be able to block some of CO’s relocations instead. CO had fairly decent positioning around the tower. Some relocations could take up a couple of the gaps or be closer, but overall, it’s not terrible. In my opinion, RS should have given up Tower 1 and committed to taking control of the Central Tower and Tower 4.

💠Tower 4

RS sent eight players to Tower 4 and CO relocated four. RS’ relocations were a mess. There were gaps between every player and no semblance of organization. They could have leveraged some of their spawns to block a couple of CO’s relocations and firmly control the tower with fewer members. CO positioned well at the bottom of the tower, given that RS didn’t attempt to block them. Although CO could have given up Tower 4 to send more players to the Central Tower.

💠Central Tower

RS decided to give up early control of the Central Tower instead of either of the outer towers. CO sent two players to the middle. I felt CO could have sent their four players from Tower 4 and a couple of players from Tower 1 to the center. It would give them a pivot point to move between the outer towers.

💠Altars

Neither team opted to send anyone to either altar.

💠Home Towers

RS stationed two guards at their home tower and CO had one at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, RS blocked five relocations and destroyed another, nearly nullifying RS’ advantage. They bombarded another with attacks and zeroed him before CO had dealt much damage. RS zeroed another before CO finally responded with their own. RS was focused on the tower and nearly captured it, but RS put a stop to it at the last second. CO kept sending more players back to the tower and was slowly dwindling the forces of RS down. RS couldn’t send any themselves because they were struggling at Tower 4. It took 17 minutes, but CO finally seized the tower with ten players. Normally, RS should have given up on the tower and gone to the Central Tower instead, but they did an excellent job holding out and stalling at Tower 1 with only five players.

At Tower 4, all of the relocations were completed with a hitch. RS immediately stacked the tower while sending solo attacks and rallies to the enemies. They captured the tower without much resistance a couple of minutes later. RS was so proficient at rallying and multitasking that they zeroed a couple of CO players while focusing on the tower. CO kept sending players to the tower, but RS was eliminating them one by one. While some of RS’ players moved to surround the tower, there were many who stayed in the back instead of relocating forward as soon as their relocations were available at seven minutes. With how dominating they were at Tower 4, RS could have sent a couple of players to the Central Tower too.

In the center, CO took the tower uncontested with three players at the 13-minute mark. Realistically, RS should have sent all of their players from Tower 1 and a few players from Tower 4 to fight for control of the Central Tower before it became available.

18 minutes into the match, RS finally made a move for the Central Tower. Four of them started to relocate next to CO. CO just let them complete two of their relocations without destroying or blocking them, which was a huge blunder. RS teleported in, but CO responded with their own teleports. They did a great job of destroying and blocking RS’ incoming relocations and stalled their attack. However, a couple of CO players relocated elsewhere while RS’ reinforcements were still marching towards the center. RS zeroed a couple of their enemies before stealing the tower at the halfway point, marking the start of their comeback.

Meanwhile, at the 21-minute mark, RS left their home tower completely open, and CO took advantage of that. One player teleported to the tower. By the time RS realized and relocated to the tower, CO stole it a couple of minutes later. RS relocated three of their players from spawn to the tower, zeroed the two invaders, and took the tower back ten minutes later. It gave them three towers for the first time in this match.

All of the CO members who were stuck in the spawn started moving towards the Central Tower. RS started doing the same, and a brawl ensued. Every time it looked like CO would be able to wrestle control around the tower, starting from the west side, RS pushed them back. RS could have done a better job of moving closer to the tower when there were spots open too. After 25 minutes, CO almost stole the tower, but RS stopped it just in time. RS tied the match with only five minutes left. CO was unable to steal any of the towers and narrowly lost the game.

💠Summary

The MVP of the match was RS’ Archy as they won with 86,000 points to CO’s 81,850. Despite being the younger team and having fewer players, RS played like veterans. They rallied and garrisoned well. They could work on their opening positions at Tower 4, but they stalled well on the other side of the map at Tower 1. CO started the match strong and went into the mid-game, taking early control of Tower 1 and the Central Tower, but they lost their footing halfway through the match. They needed to rotate off of Tower 1 earlier to reinforce the Central Tower, and they should have given up on Tower 4 earlier. They had control of Tower 1 and the Central Tower, and those were all they needed to win the match. Their invasion of RS’ home tower was a good decision and bought them some time. Their failure to capture Tower 1 earlier cost them the match. It took them nearly 15 minutes to capture a tower where they sent half of their team. Furthermore, RS left Tower 4 extremely vulnerable with only two players near the end of the match. CO could have used all of their teleports to get there and steal the tower. Taking any tower would’ve won them the match. RS earned a playoff berth with a 4-1 record, while CO can only look forward to the next season.
