1 Introduction
The 2.8.6 update rolls out on August 7 after maintenance and continues the pattern we've seen recently: small but meaningful steps.
It’s a practical update, not flashy, but still meaningful if you read between the lines.
Castle 60? Still not here.
But there’s something fresh for PvE players, two new Tower of Knowledge skills, and some smart reworks.
Let’s break it down.

2. New Features
1. Pinnacle Trial Ranking
The Pinnacle Trial gets a competitive upgrade. After completing certain stages, players unlock the Trial Ranking challenge:

- Earn points based on your clears
- Top 10 players appear on a public leaderboard
- Other players can challenge ranked ones to gain points
- You don’t lose points when defeated
- Limited attempts per day
- Rewards will be handed out at the end of each event cycle

It brings a leaderboard system to a previously quiet PvE mode, and it may push players to optimize lineups more than before.
Mael’s opinion: Smart addition. It won’t shift the meta, but it makes PvE more engaging for mid-to-endgame players. Wait and see the feature live with the Harvest Festival starting on August 11th.
2. New Tower of Knowledge Skills
Knife Through Butter – Legendary

- Triggers after 6 normal attacks
- Deals AoE physical damage 200% to all enemies
- 60% chance to reduce enemy energy by 300 energy points
- Obtained through Wisdom Well during Conquest

This is the first high-tier skill that links basic attacks with both physical damage and energy denial across all enemies. Strong potential for attack speed teams or burst-control hybrids. This is most likely something Whales will try out on Ares. Would you try it on Alex as well? A new meta?
Iron Curtain – Epic

- Each normal attack has a 60% chance to weaken barrier effects by 30%
- Grants damage reduction (35% damage reduced) when above 70% troop strength
- Obtained via Conquest Recharge Pack

Like Knife Through Butter, Iron Curtain is based on attack speed and normal attacks so it seems like a niche. Barrier weakening won’t matter in every matchup, and the HP threshold might limit its impact in prolonged fights.
Mael’s opinion: Knife Through Butter could be a skill redefining PvP meta. Iron Curtain’s solid for bruiser teams but won’t be a priority skill for most players.
3 Optimizations
1. Wisdom Well Shop Updates
More skills have been added to the Wisdom Well shop from both the Season 1 and Conquest pools. This includes:
- S1 Skills like Victorious Pursuit, Snipe, Stormeye, Weakening Curse, Blade Vortex, Toxin Barrier, Demonic Contract, Void Realm
- Conquest Skills like Berserker, Siren’s Gaze, Wind Rage, Weakness Protection

2. Prosperity Recovery Rules
Gem costs for restoring prosperity now scale with daily use and reset at 00:00 UTC.
This pushes players to think before spamming restores especially during PvP events.
Mael's Opinion: The new prosperity restore cost system feels a bit off. It doesn’t really impact Free-to-Play players who don’t spend many gems, and big spenders can afford it anyway. But mid-spenders are the ones feeling the hit.
3. Migration Power Cap Raised
The migration power limit now grows based on the number of Contention of Relics events completed.
New cap: from 2M–3M → up to 4M–6M
4. Golden Path Shop Improvement
The Golden Path Shop received a meaningful upgrade:
- You can now view item quantities directly next to each item.
- This small interface tweak makes a big difference when making fast decisions.

But that’s not all, the item selection itself has been significantly enhanced:
- Immortal Fragments (60 each) available for: Mathilda, Trajan, Yi Sun-sin, Margaret I, Louis IX, Seondeok, Artemisia, Pakal, and Tokugawa.
- Exclusive Artifacts have been added to the pool.
- Artifact Selection Chests are also available, giving players more control in building targeted strategies.

Mael’s opinion: Mostly backend tweaks, but this is one of the best updates to the Golden Path so far. Giving access to 60 fragments of key Immortals and exclusive artifacts turns the shop into a real progression tool. Especially for Free-to-Play and light spenders, this offers a reliable and repeatable way to chase what they need. It’s a clear win more flexibility, more value, and more strategy.
4 Balance Adjustments
All three adjustments in this patch are buffs to Holy Immortals, a rare sight. It’s a strong signal that developers may be trying to reignite Holy’s relevance, possibly to counterbalance the rising synergy between Shadow Immortals and the Shadow Dragon.
Is this Holy’s comeback moment?
1. Manco Cápac
Sun Flare received a small but notable adjustment in this patch. The skill still grants control immunity to all Holy Immortals and channels a dazzling light for 15 seconds, increasing dodge rate for all allies by 25%. After the channeling phase, Manco becomes immune to Confuse and continues to deal 200% physical damage to all enemies every 3 seconds until the end of battle.
While the dodge rate and damage rate remain unchanged, the key update lies in the added Confuse immunity that kicks in after the skill activates. Energy regeneration is still disabled once the spell is cast, just as before.
= Dodge Rate unchanged (still 25%)
= Damage Rate unchanged (still 200%)
+ Confuse Immunity.

Mael's Opinion: This is more than a tweak. Manco now provides stronger battle presence and better support against crowd control.
2. Khubilai Khan
His ultimate skill has received a buff, making Khubilai Khan more relevant in burst-focused lineups:
- Damage rate increased: from 240% → 260% at level 8.

This adjustment raise the base and scaling potential of the damage dealt by each wolf.
What hasn’t changed (but still worth noting):
- Each of the 5 wolves targets a random enemy
- Each has a 60% chance to apply a debuff that increases physical damage taken by the enemy
- The debuff still stacks up to 3 times, lasting 9 seconds

Mael’s opinion: It’s a small increase on paper, but 5 wolves hitting for 20% more adds up fast — that’s over 100% extra physical damage in total. It could make a real difference, especially when paired with Immortals like Nebuchadnezzar II who already boost the enemy’s physical damage taken.
3. Nebuchadnezzar II
His energy regeneration rate has been increased from 66 to 83.
The graph below is based on base energy regeneration only. It does not factor in Immortal level, talents, buffs, or energy-boosting skills.

While the change looks minor, it helps him cast his ultimate more frequently. And that matters — his ultimate boosts healing for allies and increases physical damage taken by enemies. In sustained fights or with energy-boosting talents, this buff could add real value. Those 3 buffs are coherent and will make Holy teams stronger for sure!

Mael’s opinion: Manco once stood among the strongest Immortals before Chaos took over. His new confuse immunity, paired with Khubilai’s stacking debuffs and Nebu’s faster ultimates, could bring Holy teams back into the spotlight. All three buffs are coherent and push the Holy element forward. Khubilai’s tweak adds real PvP value, and while Nebu still lacks a clear identity, more frequent ultimates might finally give him one.
5 Mael’s Opinion
This patch adds pressure in subtle ways.
Trial Ranking offers PvE players a reason to come back daily. I like that losses don’t punish you, just reward consistency and planning.
Knife Through Butter has big potential. Anything that delays ultimates in PvP is instantly worth looking at.
The rest? Cleanups, shop fixes, and a few Immortal reworks that may or may not change their usage depending on your current team.
Still… no Castle 60. We’ve been waiting, and each patch without it feels a little stale.
But with energy-based updates, Trial reworks and ranking, and Dragon Key crafting last patch maybe the pieces are being set.
6 Conclusion
Patch 2.8.6 is a maintenance-style update with meaningful bits.
No shock value except Golden Path Shop and Holy users. No meta reset.
But if you’re PvE-focused, like to try out new skills, or part of a migrating alliance, there’s stuff here for you.
What do you think?
- Is Knife Through Butter worth the investment?
- Will Manco’s rework bring him into your team?
- Are we reading too much into these updates or not enough?
