🔷 Introduction

Welcome to part three of my Poseidon series. A fabled immortal with a long-standing history both in and out of Infinity Kingdom. I will be diving into his story, softly based in Greek lore but also mixed with the famous Norheim. Showing how he interacts within both spaces.

🔷 Recap of part 2: "Shadow of the Deep"

Poseidon faces the return of an ancient force he once bargained with, a Leviathan born from the sea’s forgotten chaos. To prevent its wrath, he humbles himself before it, not as a god but as part of the ocean, and in doing so, earns a fragile, renewed balance.

🔷 Part 3:  "Between Sea and Olympus”

Olympus did not take kindly to silence. Especially not from one of its kings.

Poseidon had been gone too long. The sea still answered his name, but something about it had changed. Even from the heights of Mount Olympus, gods could feel it. The ocean no longer moved with obedience. It listened, yes, but now it weighed every command. And when it did obey, it did so with hesitation.

Hera was the first to voice concern. She did not summon Poseidon. She summoned Athena.

“He gave himself to it,” Hera said, pacing the marble hall. “That’s the word traveling among the river spirits.”

Athena, always careful with her thoughts, waited a moment before responding.

“Gave himself how?”

Hera stopped and looked toward the edge of the balcony, where the sky met the sea far below.

“He met something in the deep. Something old. And instead of destroying it, he offered himself.”

Athena folded her arms. “So you want me to challenge him?”

“I want you to remind him who he is. And who we are.”

Athena said nothing for a while. Then she turned and walked away.

She found Poseidon days later, standing waist-deep in the shallows off a deserted island. His trident was not in his hand. It stood buried in the sand nearby, unused.

“You look like a man waiting to be forgotten,” Athena said.

Poseidon didn’t turn. “I was almost remembered.”

Athena stepped into the water, letting it reach her knees. “They’re worried.”

“They should be.”

She studied his profile. There was no madness in his eyes. No rage. Just weight.

“You made a deal,” she said.

“I did.”

“Without the council.”

“No time. And no point.”

“You let it live.”

Poseidon finally turned to face her. “It was already alive. All I did was stop it from rising.”

Athena’s gaze held steady. “You submitted.”

“I remembered what I was before Olympus.”

“You are still a king.”

Poseidon shook his head. “I am still a servant. I just forgot who I served.”

Athena didn’t like the answer, but she didn’t argue. Not yet.

“You know Hera will not let this stand. She’ll demand you reaffirm your claim. Publicly. Loudly.”

“And if I don’t?”

“Then you are no longer ruler of the sea.”

The words hung heavy between them.

Poseidon looked out across the water. “I was never its ruler. That’s the problem. I thought I was. I built palaces beneath waves and called it dominion. But I never asked if the sea agreed.”

Athena narrowed her eyes. “You would step down?”

“I would rather serve it truthfully than rule it in illusion.”

Athena turned to leave. But before she did, she spoke once more.

“If you do this, it will not end with a shift in title. Others will come. They will see your humility as weakness. And the sea will not protect you from Olympus.”

Poseidon looked back at her. “Then Olympus will learn what the sea already knows. Power does not come from claiming. It comes from understanding.”

The water stirred around them. Not in anger. Not in approval. Just awake.

📄 Recap Questions

Why does Athena warn Poseidon that his humility might be seen as weakness by the other gods?

What does Poseidon mean when he says power comes from understanding rather than claiming?

🔷 Conclusion

Poseidon’s choice to yield to the ancient force beneath the sea marks a turning point for both himself and Olympus. His willingness to serve the ocean’s true nature rather than claim false dominion challenges the gods’ understanding of power and sets the stage for a new order—one where humility may prove stronger than authority.
