💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Eight Point Phase match between Server 360’s Dairy Queen(DQ) and Server 369’s Immortals(IMM). IMM’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while DQ’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Both servers are young and relatively inexperienced. DQ had a 4-3 record heading into the match, losing to Server 351’s DF, Server 231’s IMPK, and Server 308’s RIF. None of their wins have been overly impressive either. However, they are only able to field around 15 players every week, so their record is decent, given that fact. On the other side, IMM was 2-1 and lost their match against Server 366’s TDL. Some weeks, they have more than 20 players. Other weeks, they have fewer. Their wins haven’t been against any strong teams either. IMM should have the upper hand with more players, but DQ has more games under their belt.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

DQ

  • Started with 10 players and ended with 15
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 1 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

IMM

  • Started with 16 players and ended with 26
  • 5 Attack talents
  • 8 Defense talents
  • 3 Support talents

💠Tower 1

DQ relocated four players to Tower 1, and IMM sent five. DQ’s players are positioned close to the tower, while all five IMM members are further north. IMM has a slight edge with more players, but DQ is closer to the tower, so they should be able to stop IMM from capturing it at the very least. Whoever can rally and zero a couple first would win the tower.

💠Tower 4

DQ sent only two players to Tower 4, and IMM sent three. Three players are enough if they can block at least one relocation. They attempt it, but the player trying to do so does not have a good spawn location, so instead, he would likely get blocked. That would give DQ an even battle.

💠Central Tower

Both teams decided to forgo the center in the opening minutes. This tactic is fine for matches with fewer players, as neither team wants to waste ten minutes waiting for the Central Tower to open up. Furthermore, stealing the tower back later is much more feasible when there aren’t 20 or more players crowding and defending the area.

💠Altars

DQ had one player move to the Sun Altar, and IMM sent three players to the Moon Altar. I dislike this from both teams. DQ has six fewer members, so they should give up the altar and put the extra person somewhere else. IMM knows they have more players, so they should not lower their available numbers by wasting their time at the altar. Either way, no team should ever waste their time at the altars in the opening minutes.

💠Home Towers

DQ stationed two guards at their home tower. IMM had two at theirs as well, and they sent one to DQ’s home tower. DQ would likely destroy the relocation, so it’s a waste of time.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, the teams took two different approaches. IMM immediately started rallying while DQ kept sending solo attacks. IMM also had several players who entered the map late and relocated to the tower. In the midst of the trades, IMM started sending marches to the tower, and a couple of minutes later, they suddenly seized control with DQ not contesting it, despite having three players next to the tower. By the 15-minute mark, IMM eradicated DQ from the area, but it took them eight players to do so. IMM should have relocated closer to the tower when their cooldowns were up, three minutes after they first arrived. They stood too far from the tower for way too long.

At Tower 4, DQ blocked one relocation and could have destroyed the other two, too, giving them full control of the tower. Unfortunately, the two players were too focused on the tower and let IMM finish building their relocations. DQ sent a couple more players to the tower, and IMM tried to do the same. DQ zeroed one and blocked multiple relocations. With IMM so heavily committed to the top side of the map, they had few members to spare for Tower 4. DQ zeroed the remaining enemy next to the tower, surrounded it, and finally captured it at the 13-minute mark.

Since the Central Tower was vacant, IMM sent one player there six minutes into the match, and DQ started sending players there when the tower opened. IMM blocked a relocation, but another had finished. A second before IMM was able to capture the tower, DQ stopped it in the nick of time. Five more IMM players relocated from Tower 1 and the spawn. They zeroed the lone DQ player and destroyed a relocation. One finished his relocation, and another DQ teleported in, but they were not enough to stop IMM from capturing the tower at the 19-minute mark.

It took IMM so long to damage and zero the remaining enemies from the area that more and more DQ members relocated and teleported in. They zeroed three IMM members before pushing them back. They stole the tower at the 24-minute mark and had their final win condition. IMM should have repositioned themselves around the tower so they could easily destroy incoming relocations.

Meanwhile, there were three DQ guards defending Tower 4. IMM relocated one player near the tower, and DQ failed to destroy it. One of the guards only sent two marches when he needed to send three to destroy a relocation in IBL. Then two of the defenders inexplicably moved to the center. One more came from the spawn to reinforce the tower. The IMM invader zeroed the first one. Several more IMM relocated to the tower. DQ tried to respond, but their rotations were too slow. IMM surrounded the tower and stole it at the 40-minute mark.

IMM was down 15,000 points with 20 minutes left. With the three outer towers they held, they would only generate another 12,000 points in the time remaining. IMM tried to make plays at the Central Tower and other towers to no avail. DQ would also go on to steal Tower 2 from IMM after they left it defenseless in the last ten minutes to put the final nail in the coffin.

💠Summary

DQ’s I’MNini was the match MVP as they won the match with 91,500 points to IMM’s 72,500. Both teams chose to give up the center, but only DQ sent players to the right places. IMM sent so many players to the altar that their Tower 4 team was undermanned. While DQ lost Tower 1, they did well to send players next to the tower. They need to work on stopping their opponents from taking the tower, though. Both teams also need more practice destroying relocations. In multiple instances, players from both teams only sent two marches instead of three and failed to destroy the targets. Both teams were able to recognize when and which towers were vulnerable. DQ held on for just long enough to secure the win. DQ goes to 5-3 while IMM dropped to 2-2.
