💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Eight Point Phase match between Server M018’s Ice Cold(IC) and Server 344’s SavageHunter(AWO0). AWO0’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while IC’s will be in red.

💠Overview

IC hails from Server M018, a conglomerate including Server 321, which used to have several veterans, among others. IC was 5-1 heading into this match, losing only to Server 73’s CUBS. Most of their victories were landslides, except for one. On the other hand, AWO0 was 4-1 heading in the match after their loss against Server 345’s LC last week. They played relatively well, but their lateness to the match really hurt them in that game. Their margin of victory in their matches isn’t as good as IC’s, but their matches have been more difficult. If AWO0’s players show up on time, I would favor them to win.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

IC

  • Started with 22 players and ended with 28
  • 10 Attack talents
  • 11 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

AWO0

  • Started with 24 players and ended with 33
  • 14 Attack talents
  • 9 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

💠Tower 1

AWO0 relocated three players to Tower 1 and IC sent six, with one player overlapping two others. I really dislike AWO0’s decision and plan for this tower. If they were only planning to send three members, the better move to make was to give it up entirely to focus on the Central Tower and Tower 4. All three players were positioned far from the tower as well, which meant IC would have priority over the tower. IC had three players next to the tower and one relocated to block one of AWO0’s. The member who is overlapping with his two teammates should immediately cancel his relocation. IC should win this tower without much difficulty.

💠Tower 4

AWO0 sent five players to Tower 4 and IC sent eight. It is perfectly fine for AWO0 to send fewer players to Tower 4 as long as they can block or destroy some relocations. Unfortunately, they didn’t position themselves to do so despite having a couple of edge spawns. AWO0 could have at least blocked two or three relocations. AWO0’s relocations were too far apart from each other. IC’s were much more compact and there were no gaps in between. Against better teams who can make proper use of the green team’s innate advantage, IC should concede the first few rows next to the tower.

💠Central Tower

AWO0 sent seven players to the Central Tower and IC sent six. The relocations on both sides are all over the place. Typically, teams would occupy the spots on the two closest sides of the tower. AWO0 sent players to all four sides and attempted to block a relocation on IC’s bottom side as well.

💠Altars

AWO0 sent two players to the Moon Altar and no one from either team relocated to the Sun Altar.

💠Home Towers

AWO0 had seven players guarding their home tower and IC had one at theirs. There is no reason AWO0 should have that many players at Tower 2. IC isn’t even attempting to invade the tower through the use of the altars. That means nine players are either at Tower 2 or the Moon Altar and the other outer towers would be short members. AWO0 handicapped themselves with this plan.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, IC blocked one relocation and canceled one of their own. IC immediately started capturing the tower, but right before they seized it, AWO0 miraculously stopped it. This was a massive failure by IC. They had four players next to the tower and five players overall, while AWO0 only had two players who were further away. Allowing AWO0 to stop the capture meant IC would spend more time at the tower instead of rotating in the next couple of minutes. IC sent three more players to the tower, one of whom relocated next to AWO0, and AWO0 failed to destroy the relocation. He made them pay and zeroed one. IC allowed the other to finish relocating next to the tower and he subsequently stopped the siege again. IC finally zeroed him a few minutes later, but they didn’t capture the tower until the 13-minute mark, eight minutes later than they should have. That’s 4,800 points they could have gotten. Most importantly, it forced more players to help at the tower than was necessary.

At Tower 4, AWO0 blocked one relocation, but IC responded by zeroing one themselves. IC had a nine-to-four advantage, so they thought they could take the tower and spent the next several minutes trying to do so. With such a huge difference in players, IC should have focused on rallying and zeroing the remaining enemies, so even if reinforcements come, there wouldn’t be enough people to make a push. Eventually, IC surrounded the tower, and while more AWO0 players relocated back to the tower, they couldn’t position themselves closer. IC finally captured the tower at the 13-minute mark.

In the center, AWO0 blocked two relocations and IC canceled one themselves, giving AWO0 a massive numbers advantage. They rallied and zeroed a couple of players. The latecomers from AWO0’s side reinforced the center shortly after. By the time the Central Tower opened, there were only three IC players left in the vicinity and they were nowhere close to the tower. AWO0 captured their first tower of the match at the 12-minute mark and bought themselves some reprieve.

For the next ten minutes, AWO0 kept trying to attack Towers 1 and 4. While IC had more towers, their lead was minuscule. They were only up 2,000 points. At the 17-minute mark, AWO0 made a move for IC’s home tower. IC’s lone guard failed to destroy the relocation. Suddenly, more and more AWO0 members appeared around the tower. IC responded with their own relocations from their spawn. IC defended the tower with six players and successfully repelled them ten minutes later. At the same time, AWO0 teleported and relocated multiple players to Tower 1. Because IC had to defend their home tower and too many players were holding Tower 4, the defense at Tower 1 was thin. Nine players were huddled together at Tower 4 when five or six was going to be enough and then the team could supplement with teleports as needed. AWO0 overwhelmed IC at Tower 1 and stole it at the 35-minute mark.

Two minutes after losing Tower 1, IC teleported to siege AWO0’s home tower. Fortunately for AWO0, they already had five players in their spawn and they also had teleports of their own. AWO0 defended their tower and IC had no options left. Even if IC had stolen Tower 2, it was going to be extremely difficult for them to hold for 20 minutes. It was going to be easy for AWO0 to keep replenishing their defense since their spawn was so close. IC’s failure to capture another tower meant they wouldn’t have enough points to win the match.

💠Summary

AWO0’s LINESMAN was the match MVP as they won the match with 91,350 points to IC’s 76,000. AWO0 played and rotated much better than they did in last week’s loss. However, their attendance is still a problem. A third of their team was late. Their plan in the opening minutes needs some revision too. Stationing so many players at their home tower in the first seven minutes was a massive waste of time. They could have sacked Tower 1, put fewer players at Tower 2, forgo relocating to the towers, and send all those players to Tower 4. They could have captured both of their win conditions significantly earlier. On the other side, IC’s relocations at Towers 1 and 4 were organized, but their relocations to the Central Tower need improvement. Their mid-game rotations were also slow. They had too many players defending Tower 4. They also took too long to capture both outer towers despite having more players. IC needs to go back to the drawing board and brush up on the basics. AWO0 moved to 5-1 and IC dropped to 5-2.
