🔷 Introduction

Welcome to part one of my new series starring the newest immortal, Ares! He is commonly known as “the god of war,” but how did he get this title, and what path was he on? These are all the things I will dream up in this new Olympic series filled with all of our favorite gods.

🔷 Part 1:  "The First Blade"

Before the world knew him as the God of War, Ares was just another unwanted son of Olympus.

He wasn't handed anything. No golden cradle. No divine favor. Zeus had too many children to care for, and Hera was too busy playing politics with Olympus’s golden ones. Ares didn’t shine like Apollo or outwit like Athena. He just existed, heavy and forgotten, like a rusted sword stuck in the dirt.

While the others trained in temples or studied scrolls, Ares learned different lessons. He watched mortals bleed in fields over nothing. He listened to the cries of widows and the silence that came after victory. He wasn’t disgusted. He wasn’t fascinated either. He just understood. Something about the chaos made sense to him.

The gods waged wars too, but theirs were cleaner, dressed up in honor and prophecy. Ares saw through it. He knew it wasn’t about glory. It was survival, control, the raw truth of who breaks and who doesn’t. And deep down, he wanted to become the one thing no one could break.

That chance came when something ancient stirred beneath the world.

The gods whispered about it, terrified. It was older than the Titans, born from the scream of the first death. They called it the Hollow, but they wouldn’t face it. It wasn’t glorious. It wasn’t beautiful. It was just real.

Ares didn’t wait for permission. He went alone.

The Hollow was no beast. It was a force. A shadow made of every coward’s last breath. It fought without a face, without form, but every time it struck, it brought fear with it. Ares faced visions of his own death, his own failure, again and again. Most would’ve run. He stayed. He broke his own fear before he broke the Hollow.

It took three days, or maybe three centuries. Time didn’t work down there. All that mattered was that when he stood, bleeding and shaking, the Hollow was gone.

Something shifted in the world after that. Olympus felt it. The mortals felt it too, though they couldn’t say why.

Ares didn’t ask for a title. He didn’t need to. He had taken it. Not with ceremony, but with blood. War wasn’t a gift. It was something he earned by being the only one willing to walk straight into it and come out the other side.

Since then, they’ve painted him as a savage. Loud. Mindless. That’s the easy version.

The truth is quieter.

He’s the god who understands that war isn’t about the sword. It’s about the weight of carrying it, day after day, knowing it will never leave your hand. It’s about standing where no one else will and not flinching.

Ares didn’t become War. He endured it. And that’s why he rules it.

📄 Recap Questions

What was the true reason Ares became the God of War, and how did it differ from the stories told by the other gods?

How did Ares’s battle with the Hollow shape his understanding of war and his role among the Olympians?

🔷 Conclusion

Ares, ignored by Olympus and forged in the shadows, chose to face an ancient force called the Hollow when no other god would. By surviving and defeating it alone, he earned the right to be the God of War, not through glory, but through unbreakable resolve.
