By the end of this guide, you’ll have a clear understanding of which dragon fits your strategy best—whether you're aiming for all-out offence, survivability, or a balanced approach.

Let’s dive in.

Dragon Comparison: Strengths, Weaknesses & Strategic Use

Here's a comprehensive comparison table of all the Infinity Kingdom dragons, analysing their strengths, weaknesses, PvP and PvE effectiveness, and how artifacts can compensate for their flaws.

Each dragon has a unique skill set that caters to different play styles. Whether you prefer all-out offence, defensive sustainability, or crowd control, your choice of dragon will shape your strategy.

Breaking Down the Dragons: Strengths & Weaknesses

1️⃣ Fire Dragon – The Glass Cannon (Best for Boss Fights, Spider & Early PvP)

🔥 Pros

Highest raw DPS in the game (True Damage + Burning DoT)

Best for Boss fights due to continuous burn damage

Pairs well with Fire Immortals (Wu Zetian, Seondeok, William I, Trajan, Hammurabi)

❄️ Cons

No shields, no healing, no sustain – it’s all offence

Struggles against tanky teams (Earth/Water)

If it doesn’t kill quickly, it dies quickly

💡 How to Fix It

Equip HP%, DEF%, or Damage Reduction artifacts to increase survival. If playing PvP, consider adding a defensive immortal (like YSS or Charles the Great) to reduce fragility.

2️⃣ Earth Dragon – The Tank (Best for Late-Game PvP & Long Battles)

🌱 Pros

Best sustain – Shields & healing buffs keep team alive

Counters Fire teams with tankiness

Scales well into late-game (S3/Conquest)

❄️ Cons

Lowest DPS of all dragons

Vulnerable to anti-heal (Wu Zetian, Seondeok, Shadow marches)

Can be out-damaged by Lightning or Fire in fast-paced fights

💡 How to Fix It

Use Attack% or Magic Damage% artifacts to boost offence. Pair with offensive immortals (Seondeok, Zenobia) to ensure the march isn’t just soaking hits.

3️⃣ Lightning Dragon – The Assassin (Best for Bursting Healers in PvP)

Pros

High single-target burst damage (great for PvP)

Crit Rate boost makes Lightning marches devastating

Best for countering heal-heavy teams (Water, Earth)

❄️ Cons

No sustain – purely offence focused

If it doesn’t land critical hits, its damage is lacklustre

Weak against CC and dodge-heavy teams

💡 How to Fix It

Use HP% and Dodge% artifacts to improve survivability. Consider adding debuff immortals like Baldwin or Hannibal Barca to weaken the enemy first.

4️⃣ Water Dragon – The Balanced Option (Best for Long PvP Battles & PvE)

🌊 Pros

Magic Resist boost = Anti-Lightning march

Water immortals naturally have sustain (Merlin, Theodora, Attila)

Great synergy for long fights & defensive PvP setups

❄️ Cons

Lower burst damage compared to Fire or Lightning

Can struggle against anti-magic setups (Shadow/Lightning teams)

💡 How to Fix It

Equip Crit Rate/Attack% artifacts to push DPS higher. Consider mixing with Fire Dragon for damage boost in Prime League setups.

All the above Dragons, you’ll obtain while completing the Mission chapters. Be sure to complete all these tasks or you’ll miss out on being rewarded with your Water, Lightning, Wind, Earth and Fire eggs. I have not covered Wind as yet for that will be a follow-up article to explore the pros and cons of this particular Dragon. It is very challenging to upgrade since you can’t attack Gnome Bosses for crystals, and instead will buy packs in various places, for example, Insignia shop, or Cold shop. Watch out for these follow-up articles that explore in depth each Dragon and its associated information.

5️⃣ Shadow Dragon – The Disruptor (Best for PvP Control)

☠️ Pros

Reduces enemy healing & weakens tanky teams

Works well against Earth/Water stall marches

Good synergy with Shadow Immortals

❄️ Cons

Not great for Boss fights (low sustained DPS)

Requires synergy – can’t just throw it into any team

💡 How to Fix It

Equip Magic% or Attack% artifacts to boost its effectiveness. Works best in PvP control teams rather than pure DPS setups.

This exemplifies how a player will be able to gain a Shadow Dragon. It is a costly business, trying to obtain and then max either Wind, Shadow or Holy.

6️⃣ Holy Dragon – The Balanced Powerhouse (Best Overall, but Hard to Get

⚔️ Pros

Best hybrid dragon – good sustain & damage

Works well in any team

Boosts both Magic and Physical attacks

❄️Cons

Extremely rare and expensive

Not accessible to F2P players

💡 How to Fix It

Since this dragon is already well-balanced, it depends on your march – use DPS artifacts for offence or Survivability artifacts for tanky builds.

Offsetting Weaknesses with Artifacts & Talent Trees

A well-placed artifact can fix a dragon’s biggest flaw. I will only briefly touch on a few suggested ideas for how to offset inherent Dragon weaknesses. The plan will be to do a more in-depth article that will explore the synergy of march builds with pairing it with the dragon talent that will be effective. Here’s a taster of whats to come in upcoming articles:

SS of info cards)

Fire: Needs survivability → Use HP and Defence artifacts.

Wind: Needs sustain → Use lifesteal or dodge artifacts.

Earth: Needs damage → Use attack-boosting artifacts.

Lightning: Needs more burst → Prioritise crit dmg artifacts.

Talent Trees Also Matter!

Why Does the Talent Tree Matter When Building Your Dragon?

Have you ever wondered why some dragons feel significantly stronger, even at the same level? The answer lies in their talent tree—a crucial factor that shapes how your dragon enhances your march. Your dragon’s talents don’t just boost its own performance; they synergize with your immortals, reinforcing their strengths or compensating for their weaknesses. Choosing the right talents can mean the difference between a march that dominates and one that falls short.

For example, if you're using Fire Dragon with a backline of Wu Zetian and Genghis Khan, investing in Prairie Fire ensures that burn effects stack, amplifying your march’s overall damage output. On the other hand, if you're running Earth Dragon with Charles the Great and Zenobia, prioritising Fissure, boosts shields, maximizing sustain. Each dragon has unique talents that align with different playstyles—so selecting the right ones ensures that your team operates at peak efficiency.

The key takeaway? Your dragon’s talents should complement your march, not work against it. A poorly chosen build can weaken your entire strategy, while the right choices unlock powerful synergies that can define your battles.

Which talent path will best support your strategy style?

Fire Dragon using Wu Zetian? Choose Prairie Fire over Calamity to maximise burn synergy.

Lightning Dragon in a speed march? Prioritise Thunder Cry for faster attack cycles.

Picking the right dragon isn’t just about its skills—it’s about fine-tuning it for your play-style.

Conclusion: Which Dragon is the Best All-Rounder?

If you’re looking for the best dragon without spending a fortune, Demeter (Earth) wins.

An example of the versatility of the Earth Dragon, it is an approximation of the Holy Dragon, without the price tag. This report demonstrates how the Dragon can sustain DMG during a prolonged battle - 2+ mins. This Dragon is excellent on City Walls, as demonstrated in this battle report.

It’s a balanced choice—great sustain, CC, and synergy with multiple teams.

The report highlights how the CC (crowd control) of the Earth Dragon can develop a synergy with Chaos, Earth and Holy Immortals. 13 attempts by the Dragon to Stun the enemy, with a 100% success rate, all help the survivability and sustain of this Dragon. Along, with the 100% accuracy rate of the Immortals CC, this is indeed a strong march. But, need to remember, how skills, EAs & Immortal Talent tree all help to support this march.

While it doesn’t have Fire’s crazy damage, survivability matters more in later PvP seasons (S3 & Conquest).

Fire is amazing early, but once tanky Earth marches appear, it struggles.

Demeter’s stun effect is invaluable. Disrupting enemy formations can be the difference between winning and losing.

Key Takeaways for Choosing the Right Dragon

1. Match your dragon to your immortal – A bad pairing weakens your march.

2. Know your spending limits – If you can’t afford Holy, don’t force it.

3. Compensate for weaknesses – Use artifacts and talent trees to fix your dragon’s flaws.

4. Consider your long-term goal – Fire is great early, but Earth and Water have better PvP longevity. Though I would pick Earth over water, it is overall better performance. As an example, longer sustainability and immortal versification.

i.Want pure damage? Pick Fire or Lightning

ii. Need sustainability?Go with Earth or Water

iii.Want disruption? Use Shadow

iv. Playing the long game? Holy is the best—if you can get it!

At the end of the day, the best dragon is the one that fits your team, your strategy, and your budget. Choose wisely.

Key Takeaways

✔ Fire is the best for PvE bosses and Spiders, but it needs protection in PvP.

✔ Earth is the best all-rounder for F2P players—great sustainability and synergy.

✔ Water is reliable for PvP but lacks burst.

✔ Lightning and Wind are aggressive but struggle in longer fights. The biggest downfall of the Wind Dragon is the expense. Having no Gnome Boss, gaining crystals is tricky. They are obtained via the Arena shop, ToS shop, or the Marketplace.

✔ Shadow is powerful but requires a dedicated setup.

✔Lucasta is the best dragon overall but locked behind a paywall.

Which Dragon Has the Most Downsides?

Fire has the hardest time surviving. If the enemy withstands your initial attack, you’re in trouble.

Wind is one-dimensional. It’s amazing for burst damage but struggles if the fight drags on.

Shadow is the least flexible. If you don’t have a full Shadow team, it won’t perform at peak efficiency.

Choosing the Right Dragon for You

1. Match your dragon to your immortals – Your march setup determines the best choice.

2. Consider how long you want fights to las – If you want sustainability, Earth or Water are better.

3. Use artifacts to balance weaknesses – Defence, sustain, or attack buffs can drastically improve your dragon’s performance.

4. If you’re F2P, prioritise Earth for PvP and Fire for PvE.

The comparison table should make it easy for players to identify the best dragon for their play-style and adjust accordingly! Or it may help you decide which Dragon to focus on for your 2nd, 3rd or 4th marches…for they all have an importance to play. Especially when looking at ones defence and/or offence strategies, so, focusing on the next dragon to upgrade will be crucial.

Final note

Some dragons breathe devastation, others shield their team like an impenetrable fortress, and some offer the best of both worlds. But here’s the catch—no dragon is perfect. Every dragon has a flaw, and if you don’t account for it, your march will suffer.

So, how do you choose? Do you go all-in on damage? Prioritise survivability? What if you’re on a budget and can’t get Lucasta? These are all good questions to be asking yourselves, and hopefully this article has provided some answers. Look out for future articles that will cover, dragons and immortal pairing, Dragon Talent Tree, Dragon Skills, exploring a Dragon in-depth and anything else you can think of.
