🔷 Introduction

Welcome to part 31 of my Wukong series. We are following three famous fire immortals and their ally Wukong, who is currently training in the arts of fire. They have had a tough journey as of late, and their adventure is only going to get harder.

📄 Recap of Part 30: Faceless Darkness

The warriors arrive in the eerie, corrupt city of Darvan, only to encounter a powerful, shadowy figure who reveals the city is a gateway to an ancient, chaotic force. As the figure vanishes, the warriors resolve to fight this darker evil, knowing the battle ahead will be unlike anything they’ve faced before.

🔷 Part 31: “The Curse of Tut”

The warriors stood in stunned silence, their minds reeling from the revelation. The figure’s words still echoed in their ears, a chilling reminder that they were up against something far beyond what they had anticipated.

Seondeok’s bow was drawn taut, but her eyes were narrowed, searching the shadows for any sign of movement. "That voice..." she murmured, as if trying to piece together a puzzle. "The power, the aura… it's ancient. It's as though he’s more than just a force—he’s a being from another time."

Wukong’s staff spun in his hands, but he couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. The air felt dense, thick with the weight of something unfathomable, as though the very fabric of reality had been altered. The ground beneath them trembled once more, and without warning, the sky above split open with a thunderous crack.

A torrent of jagged, dark projectiles descended from the heavens, each one crackling with dark energy. Wukong barely had time to react, raising his staff in an attempt to deflect them. One of the black shards grazed his arm, and he gritted his teeth, blood staining his sleeve. Hippolyta swung her sword in a wide arc, deflecting a barrage of the deadly shards, but the force of the impacts sent her stumbling back. Wu danced between the falling projectiles, her twin blades flashing with precision, cutting through the shadows that sought to pierce her skin.

But the onslaught was relentless. Each shard that struck the ground seemed to create a new wave of distortion, warping the very air around them. The warriors’ once-steady footing wavered, the ground beneath them splitting open in places, as though the city itself was being torn apart.

"He's toying with us," Hippolyta grunted, wiping the sweat from her brow as she steadied her sword. "We need to close the gap. He’s too powerful from a distance."

Seondeok’s eyes were focused, her sharp gaze scanning the horizon, watching as the shadowy figure hovered just beyond reach, his form pulsing with an unsettling energy. "We can’t just wait here to be picked off. We need to get in close and take him down before he can summon more of this chaos."

But just as she spoke, a blast of energy exploded from the ground beneath them, forcing the group to scatter. The ground split open in jagged cracks, and the air crackled with an unnatural heat.

"Everyone, move!" Wukong shouted, his voice urgent.

They split, each warrior taking different routes, avoiding the raining projectiles, and seeking shelter behind the ruins of the council building. The shadowy figure remained in place, his form now less distinct, more like a shifting mass of void that hung in the air.

"We can’t keep dodging forever!" Wu shouted, her voice sharp with frustration. "We need to hit him now!"

With a synchronized movement, the warriors regrouped, charging toward the dark form at the center of the square. But the figure’s laughter echoed around them once more, low and mocking.

"You think you can defeat me?" His voice reverberated through the very stones beneath their feet. "I am not so easily vanquished."

Before they could react, the figure dipped into the shadow of the council building, vanishing in an instant. The warriors skidded to a halt, their weapons raised, eyes scanning every corner, every crack in the stone for any sign of movement.

"Where did he go?" Wu hissed, her voice trembling.

Seondeok’s bow was taut, her focus razor-sharp. "He’s here. He’s still here," she said, scanning the shadows warily.

Then, like a flicker in the corner of their vision, the figure reappeared, but this time, his form was more solid, more real. The shadows that swirled around him had turned into something tangible, almost liquid in their malice. He raised his hand, and the shadows seemed to reach out toward the warriors, encircling them once more.

"Stay close!" Hippolyta barked, but it was too late. The figure raised his hand, and with a wave of his arm, a pulse of dark energy rippled through the air, sending the warriors flying backward. They crashed into the stone with a sickening thud, their bodies aching from the force.

When they finally stood, their breaths labored, they realized the figure had disappeared again—vanishing into the deepening shadows, leaving only a faint echo of his dark laughter behind.

The warriors exchanged looks, their faces grim, the realization settling in. They had been caught completely off guard. This enemy—Tut, the pharaoh—was more than they had ever imagined. His power, his darkness—it was something that could not be defeated through brute force alone.

"This is just the beginning," Wukong muttered, wiping blood from his cheek. "Whatever he's doing, we need to stop it before it's too late."

Hippolyta tightened her grip on her sword. "Then we find him. And we end this. No matter what it takes."

But deep down, they all knew this was a fight unlike any other, and the cost would be far greater than they ever expected.

📄 Recap Questions

How could there be someone so powerful as to fend off our heroes and escape all at the same time?

Will they chase him down or regroup to decide what to do next?

🔷 Conclusion

In this new chapter, our heroes have stumbled upon something of true darkness that could be their undoing. However, they have never failed in a mission, and I don’t think this threat will be their downfall. The question is, will they be able to defeat him now that they know his true power?

See you next week!
