📄 Recap of Part 19: “The Betrayal of Trust”
Merlin aids Arthur and Morgana's escape from Camelot's dungeon after they deceive him with promises of redemption, creating a path of magical illusions and traps. Once free, the duo is resolved to reclaim Camelot with renewed determination, vowing to let nothing stand in their way.
🔷 Part 20: “Stone and Shadows”
The forest was thick with shadows as Arthur and Morgana moved carefully through the underbrush, their eyes scanning for any sign of the mage they sought. Their freedom had granted them a singular purpose: vengeance. Camelot’s ruin would be their triumph, but they needed power—magic so potent and concealed that it could bring the kingdom to its knees without implicating them.
Arthur’s voice broke the silence. “Are you sure this mage exists, Morgana? We’ve been wandering for days.”
Morgana gave him a sharp look, her green eyes glinting in the dim light. “Patience, Arthur. Power worth wielding is rarely easy to find. The tales spoke of him—a mage older than Camelot itself, living on the edge of the world. He’s our best chance.”
As if summoned by her words, the air shifted. The dense forest gave way to a clearing, and there, nestled in the roots of an ancient, gnarled tree, was a small hut. Smoke curled lazily from its chimney, and the scent of herbs and earth filled the air.
Arthur and Morgana exchanged a glance before stepping forward. The door creaked open before they could knock, and an old man, cloaked in faded robes, appeared. His beard was long and white, his eyes sharp and glittering with an unnatural light.
“You’ve come far,” the mage said, his voice deep and resonant. “Seeking power, no doubt. You reek of ambition.”
Arthur straightened. “We seek justice for what was stolen from us. Camelot is corrupt, and we mean to see it fall.”
The mage chuckled, the sound low and unsettling. “Justice, you say? Or revenge? No matter. I care little for the difference.” He gestured for them to enter. “Come. Let us see if you’re worthy of what you ask.”
Inside the hut, the air was thick with the smell of incense. Shelves lined with ancient tomes and jars of strange substances surrounded them. The mage moved with surprising speed, gathering items from various places, his voice a low mutter.
“What you seek is dangerous,” he said, turning to face them. “Magic that strikes from the shadows, unseen and untraceable, demands a steep price. Are you prepared to pay for it?”
“We’ll pay whatever it takes,” Morgana said firmly, her voice unwavering.
The mage studied her for a long moment before nodding. “Then I will teach you the art of summoning—a magic older than this kingdom, capable of calling forth a force of destruction. A golem of stone and earth. It will obey your will and bring devastation to Camelot, all while you remain hidden.”
Arthur’s eyes gleamed. “Exactly what we need.”
The mage outlined the ritual: sacred runes to be drawn in enchanted ink, rare elements to bind the magic, and an ancient chant to give the golem life. For weeks, Arthur and Morgana worked tirelessly, collecting the necessary materials and perfecting the spell. Morgana’s skill in magic proved invaluable, while Arthur’s determination drove them forward.
Finally, under the light of a crescent moon, the ritual began. They stood in a clearing, a massive circle of runes glowing faintly around them. Morgana’s voice rose in a melodic chant, her hands tracing patterns in the air. The ground trembled, and Arthur watched as the earth within the circle began to rise and take shape.
The golem emerged, a towering figure of stone and soil, its glowing eyes radiating menace. It stood silently, awaiting its command.
Arthur stepped forward, his voice steady. “Go to Camelot. Tear down its walls. Strike fear into its people.”
The golem turned and lumbered into the night, its massive form blending into the shadows. Arthur and Morgana watched it disappear, satisfaction etched across their faces.
“Our revenge begins,” Morgana whispered.
“And no one will ever see us coming,” Arthur replied, a grim smile on his lips.
📄 Recap Questions
Will this attack be enough to take down Camelot, or will Wukong defend it with ease?
Will the fear and threat of attacks be enough to strike fear into the people of Camelot, or will the safety and protection Wukong provides be enough?
🔷 Conclusion
Deception and power have been the core of Arthur and Morgana's decision-making since the beginning. They want to have power and control, and they use darkness and chaos to do so. The conjuring of a giant golem is no different and only further shows the nature within their hearts. They have remained on a dark path for a long time, and now they have even relied on the destruction of their own city to do so.
See you next week!
