Spotlight on Immortal : Artemisia

Hey everyone, I'm PO PandaMoratia. Did you know Artemisia was close and trusted allied to Xerxes ? In this article, we will review the immortal's skills and exclusive artifact, explore potential immortal and skill pairings, and lastly, I will share my insights on her role in the current meta.

History : 

Artemisia I of Caria (480 BC) was a queen of the ancient Greek city-state of Halicarnassus, which is now in Bodrum, present-day Turkey. She was also queen of the nearby islands of Kos, Nisyros, and Kalymnos, within the Achaemenid satrapy of Caria, around 480 BC. Artemisia's father, Lygdamis I, was of Carian-Greek ethnicity, and her mother was half-Cretan. She fought alongside Xerxes I, King of Persia, against the independent Greek city-states during the second Persian invasion of Greece. Artemisia personally commanded ships at the naval battle of Artemisium and at the naval Battle of Salamis in 480 BC. Herodotus, a native of Halicarnassus, praised her courage and recounted the respect she earned from Xerxes in his writings.

Concept : 

Artemisia is a Water Support Bowman Immortal. Her ability creates an arctic storm in the enemy area, reducing their physical defense by 30% and applying a Chill effect: reduce attack speed by 10%. The storm lasts for 12 seconds. With a high energy regen, she can keep the storm up permanently if she isn’t interrupted.

Exclusive Artifact : 

I believe that this artifact is of moderate value. The Exclusive Artifact adds a unique debuff to the arctic storm that will now have a 50% chance to reduce enemies’ critical damage by 20%. As for the stats, I would prioritize obtaining a main attribute of Dodge % and aim for "Surge" as a special attribute to help keep arctic storm up 100% of the time even if she gets interrupted or impaired.

Skills : 

As a Support immortal, the classic batteries of support skill work well on her. Her ultimate doesn’t require her to have a high HP state, which makes her a very good body guard if equipped with Assist. You can use a Paralysis aura as well to further decrease the opponent's attack speed and/or Malice aura to further decrease the critical engine, based on the march you are facing.

No Escape is also a very good skill to go with to add silence and stun to the long list of impairing effects she already has in her kit.

Best friends : 

Artemisia's best friend is obviously Margaret. By bringing the Chill effect and increasing the vulnerability to physical damage, these two are meant to be played together. Add Attila who pairs exceptionally well with Margaret to and you have a very solid socle to start building your team on. You can finish with Ramses or Harald or a flexible immortal.

Artemisia will also work very well with Merlin as main damage dealer due to the ability to keep Chill up 100% of the time. In this case Attila will be replaced by Ragnar.

Conclusion : 

Very powerful Immortal, she is sadly very difficult to max out and we don’t get to see her very often. In addition to the difficulty of building her, comes the fact that water march isn’t really part of the meta to begin with, mostly due to the Earth march counter being present in almost every account. That being said, Water with a very high damage rate usually performs well against Holy march, if you feel like an adventurer you could try to build an Artemisia based Water march and surprise your opponents.
