Spotlight on Immortal : Ragnar

Hey everyone, I'm PO PandaMoratia. In today's article, we will delve into The Immortal Ragnar. We'll review the immortal's skill and exclusive artifact, and explore potential immortal and skill pairings. Lastly, I'll share my insights on his role in the current meta.

History : 

Ragnar Lodbrok, also known as "Ragnar hairy-breeches," was a Viking hero and a king of both Sweden and Denmark, according to legends.

He is mentioned in Old Norse poetry from the Viking Age, Icelandic sagas, and near-contemporary chronicles. According to traditional literature, Ragnar was known for leading numerous raids on the British Isles and the Carolingian Empire during the 9th century. His most famous exploit was the attack on Paris in March of 845 AD, where he led a fleet of over a hundred Viking ships and more than 5000 warriors down the Seine. He also features in Norse legends, and two sagas, the Tale of Ragnar's Sons and a Saga about Certain Ancient Kings, mention that Ragnar Lodbrok's father was the legendary king of the Swedes, Sigurd Ring.

Concept : 

Ragnar is an Water Defense Shieldman Immortal. His ability causes Physical Damage (Damage Rate 200%) to enemies in an area and also increases the magical damage they receive by 30% for 6 seconds. The area as far as I can tell is every opponent on the screen and his ultimate does affect all enemies, quickly ranking up the Water’s dragon passive.

Exclusive Artifact : 

I believe that this artifact is of high value. The Exclusive Artifact extends the duration of the magical damage received from 6 to 7.5 seconds, which can make the difference between Merlin hitting with the debuff on or not. As for the stats, I would prioritize obtaining a main attribute of Physical Defense % and aim for "Growth" as a special attribute.

Skills : 

Ragnar is a Defensive Immortal that aims to be an enabler for Magical Damage dealers. However his damage is neglectable and he can perfectly be used as a bodyguard, using skills such as Assist or Guard. Aside from these two skills, the usual battery of support skills will work perfectly on him and nothing really stands out as a must have.

Best friends : 

His best buddy without any contest is Merlin. They are meant to be played together and can be a very devastating duo. You can push their synergy even further by bringing a second magical damage source in the backline, such as Loki or Himiko, to further utilize Ragnar's debuff and aim for a quick finish of the fight in one deadly rotation.

Conclusion : 

The standard starting team for a Water composition often includes the immortals Merlin, Dido, and Ragnar as third immortal with natural synergy with them. This setup provides a solid foundation, allowing you to choose a fourth flexible immortal or another Water companion to complete your strategy. As the game progresses, many players tend to shift away from Water and focus on other elements, even though Water performs well against Holy builds, particularly when Loki is involved and the opponent doesn't have Fu Fei. Despite these strengths, playing Water can become frustrating in the endgame due to its heavy reliance on luck (RNG).
