💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? With so many new legendary skills already out and more on the horizon, it can become difficult to know which skills to prioritize with limited funds. In this article, we’ll take a look at one of the newer skills that graced the game, Arcane Hunter, what it does, its role in the meta, and whether it's worth purchasing.

  • Summary

💠Arcane Hunter

Arcane Hunter is a new legendary offensive skill that reduces Magical Damage taken by 6% at level 1 and up to 20% at max level while dealing AoE Physical Damage to all enemies every 6 seconds, scaling from 90% to 300% damage. The skill can only be equipped on Ranged and Melee Attackers. Its defining feature is granting an additional 30% Critical Rate when the user has Light Blessing, a buff currently unique to Apollo. Light Blessing reduces damage taken by 10% per stack up to three stacks, allowing Apollo to gain both substantial survivability and a massive offensive boost from Arcane Hunter. Without Apollo, Arcane Hunter functions primarily as a combination of magical damage reduction and periodic AoE damage.

💠Magical Damage Reduction

Testing against Loki teams suggests Arcane Hunter is not particularly effective on frontline damage dealers such as Alexander. In battles lasting around a minute, Loki averaged roughly 600,000 damage per ultimate hit when Alexander was not using Arcane Hunter. While the skill's Magical Damage reduction did slightly reduce the damage Alexander received, the added survivability also allowed Loki more opportunities to cast his ultimate, largely offsetting the benefit. As a result, the tradeoff was not favorable, especially since Alexander has access to several stronger skill options that contribute more damage or utility. Arcane Hunter is generally better suited for ranged Physical Damage carries that are not heavily reliant on normal attacks, where the periodic AoE damage, magical damage reduction, and potential Apollo synergy can provide more overall value.

💠Damage and Light Blessing

When equipped on Apollo, Arcane Hunter performed much better than it did on frontline immortals, though not necessarily for the reason many players would expect. In multiple battles lasting around a minute, Apollo's critical hit rate remained fairly similar with or without Arcane Hunter, generally hovering between 30% and 50%. This suggests the additional 30% Critical Rate from Light Blessing does not always translate into dramatically higher observed critical hit percentages over the course of a battle. Instead, the skill's value came primarily from its periodic AoE damage. In several tests, Arcane Hunter actually dealt significantly more total damage than Apollo's ultimate skill, making it one of the largest contributors to Apollo's overall damage output. As a result, Arcane Hunter appears to be less of a critical-hit enhancer and more of a supplemental damage engine that continuously contributes throughout the battle while also providing magical damage reduction. This makes the skill much more appealing on Apollo than on most other Physical Damage immortals, even if the advertised Critical Rate bonus is not as noticeable in practice.

💠Verdict

Verdict: Arcane Hunter is not a must-buy Legendary Skill. While it performs reasonably well on Apollo and can contribute meaningful damage through its periodic AoE effect, testing suggests the advertised 30% Critical Rate bonus is less impactful in practice than it appears on paper.

💠Summary

Arcane Hunter is a new offensive skill that combines Magical Damage reduction with periodic AoE Physical Damage and gains an additional 30% Critical Rate when used by Apollo. Testing showed the Magical Damage reduction had limited impact on frontline immortals like Alexander, but Apollo benefited significantly from the skill's AoE damage, which often outperformed his ultimate in longer battles. Despite its strengths, Arcane Hunter is not a must-buy skill, as the Critical Rate bonus appears less impactful in practice and its value is heavily concentrated on Apollo.
