💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? Patch 2.8.9 arrives on Thursday, November 13, and it brings a large slate of updates. In this preview, we focus on the Legendary Season changes for KvK, explain how each mechanic works, and outline which role fits which type of player. By the end, you will know what to prepare, which roles and builds benefit most, and where your alliance should invest its time and resources.

💠Overview
Once the Legendary Season begins, alliances unlock a new Lord Contract system that assigns members to one of three professions with distinct responsibilities and talent trees. During the preparation period, leaders and members choose contracts, then during the war period they unlock Contract Talents by completing achievement tasks to earn Contract Crystals. Master Craftsman supplies the alliance by producing materials for Altar Stones and limited-use unit items. Alchemist builds Altar Stones, improves their attributes, and strengthens a coalition’s map control around cities and checkpoints. Fighting Master focuses on front-line power by gaining combat buffs that raise the alliance’s overall fighting capacity. Together these roles formalize duties, create clearer progression paths, and reward coordinated play. Each type will have limited slots within an alliance.

💠Master Craftsman
Master Craftsmen do two key things: supply materials for Altar Stones and craft Unit Boost Items that grant temporary combat bonuses.
❖Altar Stone Materials
Master Craftsmen function like tile farmers in the previous seasons, gathering resources into the alliance pool that are then spent to build Thermal Towers. Instead of resources, Master Craftsmen will be responsible for producing material to build Altar Stones, a new type of structure.
❖Unit Boosts
Unit Boost Items are season-limited consumables that temporarily increase unit attributes for a set number of expeditions. They only work within the current Legendary Season, must be manually activated, have charge limits, and can be refilled by using another item. You can obtain them from Master Craftsman production or gift packs. Items produced are mailed daily at 00:00 UTC to players who were active on the KvK map the previous day; if production is too low for at least one per eligible player, the items are stored in the Alliance Warehouse until the minimum per-capita threshold is met, and any leftovers after distribution roll into the next day’s calculation. I dislike how boosts are also included in gift packs. This gives advantages to alliances that spend more.
Best for: Players who may not be the strongest or who may not be able to commit as much time in the alliance.
💠Alchemists
Alchemists handle almost everything related to Altar Stones after Master Craftsmen produce materials. Alchemists will use those materials to build Altar Stones, but only R5 and R6 leaders can place them. In previous seasons, leaders were responsible for manufacturing Thermal Towers. This responsibility has fallen on Alchemists.
❖Altar Stone
Altar Stones are alliance-built, limited-duration auto-defense structures that only Alchemists can produce using materials from the Master Craftsman, with R6 and R5 leaders placing them within alliance vision. They are the only way to damage the new Energy Core that appears when a city or checkpoint’s walls and defenders reach zero, and the city goes to the alliance that reduces the Energy Core to zero. Once placed, Altar Stones auto-attack in this order: Energy Core, enemy Altar Stones, Lord Castle, then Lord Troops; leaders can choose from system-designated targets, and Alchemists can garrison to raise single-hit damage. Altar Stones cannot be attacked by troops and can only be removed by enemy Altar Stones, and they disappear when their timer expires.
Best for: Strong and active players who can effectively garrison and protect the Altar Stones
💠Fighting Master
Fighting Master is the combat-focused contract, though details are limited. It will likely grant battle buffs that raise individual power and help the alliance in wars. Players who do not select a contract are automatically assigned Fighting Master.
Best for: Strong and active players who will perform most of the PvP
💠Contract Development, Gold, and Gems
Contract development uses an exclusive talent tree for each role, unlocked step by step by spending Contract Crystals earned from Legion of Frostborne achievement tasks or purchased in gift packs. Contract Gold is a season-limited currency gained by completing contract tasks such as making materials, obtaining Altar Stones, or attacking Lords; each role has its own earning methods, there are daily caps, and any unspent Gold resets at season end or migration. Contract Gems come from the Expedition Battle Pass, are used in shops, and do not expire. They’re effectively the new reward systems.

💠Summary
Legendary Season adds Lord Contracts with three roles. Progress contracts with Crystals, earn season-limited Contract Gold for shop rewards, and use permanent Contract Gems from the Battle Pass for ongoing purchases.
