💊 Medicines are meant to save lives, not to be stolen for fortune 💊

📕Story Background
Bayer Pharmaceuticals was a prestigious manufacturer known for its high-end medicinal products. Because the raw materials were extremely valuable and the finished medicines sold at premium prices, the company invested heavily in advanced security systems and hired a team of professional guards to protect the premises.
Yet even the most sophisticated safeguards could not outwit a cunning thief—one night, the company was robbed again. Early the next morning, the head of security, Johnson, filed a police report claiming that several finished medicines had been stolen. The guard on duty that night was Cook, a veteran who had worked there for years.
Johnson was furious: Cook had apparently been drinking while on duty and, as a result, hadn’t heard the intruder breaking in. Johnson added that based on the scene, the thief was likely an amateur—he hadn’t even managed to pick the storage-room lock and had instead broken in through a window.
When the police arrived, they confirmed that the storage-room window had indeed been smashed and that shattered glass was scattered all over the floor inside. Cook was fired for negligence and fined heavily. He defended himself, claiming that before getting drunk, he had done a full patrol—he had drawn all the curtains, locked every door, and double-checked the important storage room in particular.
But this explanation didn’t save him. In fact, the police arrested Cook on suspicion of committing the theft himself.
Why did the police believe Cook was lying and that he might the inside thief? What was the most crucial and possible clue?
(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

----- Previous answer (Midsummer Thunderstorm) -------
Correct Answer: Chris
Sheriff Jim thought of the mimosa tree outside his office and suddenly remembered that there had also been a mimosa tree at the crime scene, right above the victim’s body. Mimosa trees have a unique trait—their leaves fold shut when stimulated. That stimulus can be a human touch, rainfall, or even splattered blood.
From this, Jim deduced:
- If the victim was killed before the rain, then the stab wounds would have sprayed blood onto the mimosa leaves, causing them to close. Even if the rain later washed over them, the leaves would remain closed, and the bloodstains would still be visible on the folded leaves.
- If the victim was killed after the rain, then the leaves would already have been folded from the rainfall, meaning no blood could have landed on them.
When Jim rushed back to check, he found bloodstains on the folded leaves of the mimosa behind the victim. This proved the murder occurred before the rain, not during or after.
Based on the suspects’ testimonies, only Chris the neighbor could have committed the crime before the storm, since his claim of repairing the roof “during the rain” was impossible. Therefore, Jim identified Chris as the killer.
