💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the first playoff match between Server 73’s Snuggle-Cubs(CUBS) and Server 209’s MysticArmee6(MyA6). MyA6’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while CUBS’ will be in red.

💠Overview
CUBS, coming off a fourth-place finish in Season 6, entered the playoffs with a strong 6-2 record, both losses coming to sister team ARC, and reinforced that form in the Group Elimination phase by defeating 1K, DK, and NG+ to secure their Top 16 Duels spot, then topped SV in the opening Top 16 round. MyA6 was 4-1 heading into the playoffs and carved a path through CN, RIF, and Midnight Sun to reach the Top 16 Duels, where a win over NG+ sent them into the top 8. Given CUBS' higher seed, consistency against tough opposition, and momentum from their Group Elim run, they should be considered the favorite in this matchup.

💠Tower 1
CUBS committed nine players to Tower 1 while MyA6 sent four. Contesting an outer objective is understandable, but MyA6’s decision to contest Tower 1 was a mistake; they should have conceded Tower 1 to secure Tower 4 and reinforce the center. CUBS’s impeccable formation around the tower created a decisive positional and numerical advantage, so those four players could not stand against CUBS’s nine and were effectively wasting the two minutes it takes to get there, the minute it takes to respawn, and the two minutes it takes to reach another objective. Given that setup, CUBS should secure the tower easily, and MyA6 would have been better off canceling the contest and redeploying to shore up Tower 4 and central control.

💠Tower 4
CUBS committed six players to Tower 4 with one overlap while MyA6 sent eight. MyA6 did not attempt to block any of CUBS' relocations despite having several edge spawns they could have leveraged, which shows a poor grasp of fundamentals and the positional advantage top sided teams innately have. MyA6 could have blocked at least five relocations and seized control of the tower with little effort, but by failing to do so they allowed CUBS to maintain a foothold even while outnumbered. Given MyA6's numerical superiority and spawn advantages, they should be favored to win this objective.

💠Central Tower
CUBS committed six players to the Central Tower with one overlap while MyA6 sent nine with one overlap. CUBS should have conceded Tower 4 to secure the center but gambled on MyA6 not exploiting their positional advantage, which left them undermanned in the middle. Against weaker teams, committing fewer players to the center early can be manageable because they can stall until rotations from a side objective arrive, but here MyA6 has the numbers and spawn advantage and should prioritize focusing targets and quickly zeroing high value players before Tower 1 can rotate into the center. If MyA6 executes those priorities they should be able to overwhelm the tower once CUBS fails to draw sufficient reinforcements.

💠Altars
Neither team went to the altars.
💠Home Towers
CUBS stationed one guard at their home tower. MyA6 had two at theirs.
💠Play-by-Play
CUBS immediately seized Tower 1 as soon as they landed. They focused on one player and zeroed him before capturing the tower one minute later. After the capture they split their focus onto their two closest targets and bombarded them with coordinated attacks. Outnumbered and under heavy pressure, MyA6 could only defend and failed to mount effective counterattacks, resulting in two more deaths and then the last player falling. Four CUBS began moving to the center as soon as their relocation cooldowns ended.

CUBS destroyed one MyA6 relocation instead of the other, which meant MyA6 had assigned players to incorrect positions. CUBS focused a single target and zeroed him, while MyA6 failed to break through with solo attacks and instead relied on slow rallies. As CUBS dealt damage across multiple targets, MyA6 attempted to focus down one player and eventually zeroed a CUBS with their rallies, but CUBS immediately answered with their own response. CUBS then activated Quick Occupy and stacked the tower, capturing it seven minutes into the match. A CUBS member relocated behind MyA6 and MyA6 failed to destroy the relocation, allowing CUBS to attack from both sides. With pressure from both angles, CUBS cleaned the area and wiped MyA6 from the objective.

MyA6 struck first by zeroing a CUBS player on the bottom side of the central tower and leaving another on the left side one hit away from being zeroed, though they could not finish her until they rallied a few minutes later. Conversely, CUBS was not dealing as much damage early on. At the 5 minute mark late arrivals from CUBS spawn points and Tower 1 began arriving at the scene. Both sides traded blows, but only CUBS kept sending players into the center to replenish their forces while MyA6 steadily depleted. CUBS reinforcements from Tower 4 also showed up, and by the time the tower opened CUBS was methodically overpowering MyA6 and compressing around the objective. At the 13 minute mark CUBS captured the tower on the strength of their numbers advantage, and several players began relocating back to their home tower even as MyA6 started to send fresh reinforcements to contest.

At the ten minute mark one MyA6 player relocated into CUBS' home tower but his relocation was destroyed by the lone guard. Seconds later another MyA6 player teleported in but he should have done so earlier to save the relocation. A minute after that a third teleport arrived and three more players began advancing toward Tower 3. CUBS blocked one invasion with their own teleport yet another four MyA6 players still started relocations. The two home guards zeroed an invader and held their ground despite MyA6 having superior numbers. CUBS then funneled in multiple players from Tower 1 and those who had died elsewhere relocated back to reinforce the defense. Home towers are extremely difficult to capture and hold because they sit so close to the enemy spawn and MyA6 fumbled the play by failing to secure the objective when they initially had the advantage. As more defenders poured in MyA6 lost their window. They managed a prolonged hold with a four player formation but could never steal the tower. Eventually the invasion was quelled. With so many players committed to that attack MyA6 lacked the manpower to contest other objectives they needed and during that period CUBS built a forty seven thousand point lead with thirty minutes remaining creating an insurmountable gap.

💠Summary
The MVP was Kira as CUBS won with 100,000 points to MyA6s 30,300. MyA6 made two game defining mistakes that cost them the match. They failed to leverage their excellent Tower 4 positioning to block multiple relocations against a site CUBS was undercommitting to; had they blocked those relocations they could have secured Tower 4 and bought more time even if they did not take the center. Their second major error was committing so many players to CUBS home tower and failing to capture it, which left them short at the other objectives they were pressing. MyA6 also could have conceded Tower 1 to reinforce the center. They performed well early but lost momentum once CUBS sent reinforcements from other sites. CUBS will face AOW next while MyA6 is eliminated from the tournament.
