🔷 Introduction
Welcome to part ten of my Poseidon series. A fabled immortal with a long-standing history both in and out of Infinity Kingdom. I will be diving into his story, softly based in Greek lore but also mixed with the famous Norheim. Showing how he interacts within both spaces.
🔷 Recap of part 9: "Taming the Sea”
Poseidon descended into the ocean’s deepest trenches, confronting ancient sea monsters that tested his power and resolve. Each victory, from the kraken to the cunning leviathan, proved his mastery and determination to claim dominion over the abyss.
🔷 Part 10: "Master of the Abyss”
Poseidon sank into a trench darker than thought, where sunlight had no claim and only his stormlight cut through black water. Shadows of titanic forms drifted around him, shapes born of myth and ancient rumor. His trident thrummed with authority, but caution guided him. This was no ordinary trial. This was a council of the abyss, and it would not bow to raw strength alone.
From the gloom, a figure drifted forward, scales glinting with cold brilliance. Its form was long, sinuous, and its eyes shone with a cunning that rivaled any god’s. “Who dares claim dominion,” it hissed, its voice a vibration that ran along the currents, “without paying homage to what came before?”
Poseidon’s grip on his trident did not falter. “I am Poseidon, son of Kronos. Olympus has tasked me with ruling this domain, but I will do so not with fiat, but with honor. I will show loyalty to what this abyss has always held sacred.”

The creature’s tail coiled, sending silt swirling in thick clouds. Around it, other forms began to appear, drifting silently: colossal crustacans, leviathans with eyes like molten gold, serpents that wound through the trench like living shadows. Poseidon did not flinch. Each was a guardian, a living chronicle of the abyss.
“You claim honor,” said a voice like shifting gravel, this from a being armored in chitin black as coal. “But honor is a trial of will, wit, and patience. Do you claim to possess all three?”
Poseidon lifted his trident, allowing stormlight to ripple outward, illuminating his path. “I will show it. I will stand against all trials you set before me. If I fail, this abyss will claim me. If I pass, it will bow, not from fear, but from acknowledgment of truth.”
A guardian surged forward, a serpent longer than a mountain’s shadow. Its jaws parted, revealing rows of teeth that could crush ships. Poseidon met it with calm, sidestepping, striking only with precision to push it back, not to kill. Each clash was measured, each blow a question answered. Around him, the other guardians observed, their movements slow, almost ceremonial.

When the serpent finally paused, circling him without striking further, Poseidon’s voice rolled through the trench. “I honor this domain and all who dwell within it. I claim not to dominate by fear or fury, but by right and understanding. Show your final trial, and I will see it.”
A silence fell. Currents slowed. Then, a form rose, taller than any mountain, crowned with coral and adorned with shells that hummed with unseen currents. “So you speak with truth,” it said. “You hold courage, and you hold respect. Olympus sent you, but it is not Olympus that will crown a king of the abyss. It is this council. Prove that your dominion is just, and this world of shadows will follow.”
Poseidon lowered his trident, stormlight dimming to a steady glow. His jaw was firm, his stance unwavering. He had not fought with all his might, but with wisdom and clarity. And for the first time, a murmur ran through the trench, an acknowledgment from ancient guardians that the god of the sea had arrived, not as conqueror, but as rightful master.
📄 Recap Questions
How did Poseidon approach the council of abyssal guardians, and what qualities did he emphasize to gain their acknowledgment?
What role did wisdom and restraint play in Poseidon’s interactions with the guardians compared to using raw strength?
🔷 Conclusion
Poseidon earned the tentative respect of the ancient guardians through courage, honor, and measured action rather than sheer force. His approach proved that mastery of the abyss requires more than power—it demands understanding and reverence for all who dwell within it.
