🔷 Introduction

Welcome to part 23 of my Wukong series. We are following three famous fire immortals and their ally Wukong, who is currently training in the arts of fire. They have had a tough journey as of late, and their adventure is only going to get harder. This story is a continuation of King Arthur, Part 16. If you have not read it and want to keep continuity, please read that first and enjoy!

📄 Recap of Part 22: The King’s Paranoia: The Fall of Camelot

The heroes manipulate Arthur's growing paranoia, feeding him half-truths about the people's acceptance of magic while concealing the brewing resentment and unrest. Consumed by fear of rebellion, Arthur begins to unravel, vowing to tighten control over the kingdom, setting the stage for catastrophic consequences in Camelot.

🔷 Part 23: “Shattered Crown: The Fall of Camelot”

Arthur’s paranoia consumed him like a wildfire, spreading to every corner of his mind until it burned away his reason. The first of his drastic measures came swiftly—a decree that all villages surrounding Camelot submit to strict magical oversight. Mage enforcers were dispatched to every settlement, imposing new laws with unyielding force. Anyone found resisting the crown’s control over magic, even passively, was declared an enemy of the state.

The people—already teetering between apprehension and acceptance—erupted in anger. Farmers who had grudgingly allowed mages to enhance their fields now watched as their homes were invaded by soldiers. Traders who had cautiously embraced enchanted tools found themselves taxed into poverty by royal decrees. Fear gave way to fury, and whispers of rebellion turned into cries for action. Soon, entire villages banded together, torching the supply lines and staging open defiance against Arthur's rule. The kingdom fractured into two camps: those loyal to the crown and those rallying under a new banner—the Freeborn, vowing to take back Camelot from magic’s grip.

The war came to Camelot’s gates with the force of a tidal wave. Flames from torches lit up the night as thousands of villagers—non-magic and disillusioned alike—stormed the castle walls. They wielded weapons of iron, ingenuity, and sheer desperation. Opposing them were Arthur’s forces, bolstered by mages who unleashed devastating spells upon the attackers. Lightning crackled, fire rained down, and the once-pristine fields surrounding Camelot became a battleground soaked in ash and blood.

Among the chaos, the four heroes—the immortal firebrands who had set this tragedy into motion—moved like shadows through the battlefield. Wukong, his staff spinning like a blur, held back advancing troops with calculated precision. Seondeok manipulated her influence from afar, subtly turning even Arthur’s loyalists against him by sowing seeds of doubt. Wu alternated between acts of heroism and sabotage, ensuring that no side truly gained the upper hand. Hippolyta strode through the fray like a lioness, rallying the disillusioned rebels while cutting down any who challenged her.

Inside the castle walls, Arthur stood in the great hall, surrounded by his most trusted knights and mages. His once-noble visage was now gaunt, his eyes wild with exhaustion and fear. Morgana stood at his side, her lips pressed into a thin line as she watched the battle unfold through the windows. “We’re losing,” she muttered, her voice sharp. “Your paranoia has brought this upon us. If you’d only listened—”

“Enough!” Arthur snapped, slamming a fist onto the table. “I am the king! This is my kingdom! They will not take it from me!”

Before Morgana could reply, the doors to the great hall burst open. The four heroes entered, their expressions cold and resolute. Arthur’s knights drew their swords, but Wukong raised a hand, his voice calm but commanding. “There’s no need for more bloodshed,” he said, though his staff rested ominously at his side.

Arthur’s face twisted in rage as he pointed at them. “Traitors! I trusted you to bring unity, and instead, you’ve turned my people against me!”

“We gave you the truth,” Seondeok said quietly, her tone almost pitiful. “You chose fear over wisdom. Your own actions brought this war to Camelot.”

“Enough lies!” Arthur roared, drawing his sword. “If I must, I’ll end this rebellion myself!”

But before he could act, Wu muttered an incantation under his breath. Chains of glowing energy erupted from the floor, binding Arthur where he stood. His sword clattered to the ground as he struggled against the magical restraints. Morgana raised her hands, summoning a counterspell, but Hippolyta was faster. A golden lasso snaked through the air, wrapping around Morgana and rendering her powerless.

The heroes stood over the two fallen rulers, their expressions unreadable. Wukong crouched to meet Arthur’s furious glare. “You had a chance to lead with wisdom, Arthur. To show the people a better way. Instead, you gave them only fear.”

Arthur’s voice was a hoarse whisper, his rage giving way to despair. “You’ve destroyed everything…”

“No,” Seondeok said softly. “You destroyed it yourself.”

The following day, the people of Camelot gathered before the castle, their anger tempered with curiosity and shock. Word had spread quickly of the heroes’ actions. In the square, Arthur and Morgana were presented before the crowd, their powers bound by intricate magical seals. The once-mighty king and his sorceress sister were now prisoners, stripped of their authority and influence.

Wukong addressed the crowd, his voice carrying over the throng. “Arthur Pendragon and Morgana Le Fay have failed this kingdom. Their actions brought ruin to Camelot and its people. Today marks the end of their rule.”

The crowd erupted into cheers and cries of anger, their emotions a mix of relief and vengeance. Arthur’s head hung low, his defeat complete, while Morgana stared defiantly at the crowd, her silence louder than any protest.

The two were dragged to the castle dungeons, where they were locked away, their powers sealed by ancient magic. As the heavy iron door slammed shut, the echoes reverberated through the halls, signaling the end of an era.

The four heroes stood outside the dungeon, their faces a mixture of triumph and solemnity. They had accomplished their goal, but at what cost? Camelot was forever changed, its people united but fractured, its rulers dethroned, and its future uncertain. As they turned to leave, the shadows of the dungeon swallowed Arthur and Morgana, leaving them alone to contemplate the wreckage of their legacy.

📄 Recap Questions

Does Arthur have any moves left, or is this the end of his story?

What will our heroes do with the remains of Camelot?

🔷 Conclusion

Wukong and his friends have yet again conquered a quest they set out on. They did not plan for a political battle, but they kind of fell into one and made the best of their situation. Manipulation was one of their greatest assets and will greatly benefit them in the future.
