More benefits, more surprises
On K31, Tyrion ruled peacefully, glad to be hand to the King. But soon he got word from one of his scouts, a new enemy was approaching. The dreaded Triarchy had reformed and the rumored ancestor of the legendary Crabfeeder who had once terrorized Westeros was coming. Everyone knew him as the Crabdestroyer.
Tyrion began to panic, most of the threats that he had dealt with as Hand were to do with money, whenever there was a conflict, it had always been on land. Tyrion had no experience with a naval conflict, and knowing the Triarchy was historically feared for their naval prowess, Tyrion was worried that Kings Landing would be unprepared. As Tyrion called for the small council to form up he knew before he opened the doors to the meeting that there was likely only one naval force strong enough to challenge the triarchy....
As he explained the situation to the small council, his master of ships, explained that they had only 10 remaining ships in all of Kings Landing and that they would surely lose in any conflict with the newly formed Triarchy's navy. This confirmed Tyrion's fears, he sighed, alas, it looks like we will need to call on the Greyjoys. We need their fleet.
The small council all looked with surprise at Tyrion, of course the Greyjoys could be a helpful ally, but they had long separated from the Seven Kingdoms and the passage to get to them was through a vast uncontrolled area. "It will be difficult," Tyrion muttered to himself, "too large a force and the Triarchy will see what we are tryign to do and attack while Kings Landing is even less protected, but too small a force is unlikely to survive the trek, and to top it all off, we would need someone high enough ranking to even get a meeting with the Greyjoys."
Tyrion again sighed as he announced to the small council: "I will go. It is the only way. I have to do this, or all will be lost." With that, Tyrion strode from the room and sent for the only two people he could ever truly rely on in a time like this.
So Tyrion set off, with his brother, Jaime, and his sister, Cersei. The sword and the snake as most knew them. The only thing sharper than Jaime's blade was Cersei's tongue. It was Tyrion's hope that Jaime would help get them there and then between his strategy and Cersei's manipulation, they just may be able to convince the Greyjoys to join them - specifically get their new queen, Yara, to join the fight. So they were off...
After the first day of travels, they ran into their first obstacle, on the road up ahead, Cersei called out: "Wildlings! Look out!"
Luckily there weren't too many, and with the element of surprise, Jaime had no trouble dispatching with the entire group of Wildlings himself!
And so they continued on... often sleeping off the roads and in the trees to remain out of sight.
The following day they saw yet another Wildling camp, but this one was a bit bigger, they surveyed it and together decided they would have to coordinate an attack on the camp. Luckily, with the greatest sword in all of Westeros, in Jaime, along with one of the greatest strategists, Tyrion, they had no problem dispatching with such an unorganized foe.
"If only the crabdestroyer were as easily defeated..." thought Tyrion.
The next day was far more interesting than the last few. As Tyrion and the others were travelling they came across a lone, old Maester who's neck was heavy with chains. "I wonder what they are doing out here?" Tyrion asked.
"Its unlikely to be anything good for us." Muttered Cersei in response.
"Ahhhhh hello, you three, I have been expecting you. I will give you a prize if you can answer my question..." The old man said.
"Ask away." Tyrion said.
"Mmmm good." The maester replied. "What is more powerful than a king, but weaker than the tiniest baby, and desired by the rich, yet possessed by the needy?"
Jaime looked around and shouted, "A sword! A sword is more powerful than a king, but without the right person to wield it, it is weak!"
"WRONGGGG!" shouted the Maester almost deliriously.
Frustrated, Jaime stalked off muttering about stupid riddles.
Tyrion on the other hand studied the man closely. Cersei chimed in next, "this riddle is unfair, there is no answer!"
"Ahhh, but there is an answer!" the man said, now locking eyes with Tyrion.
"Nothing..." Tyrion said. "Nothing! Thats the answer!"
The Maester grinned. "Right you are... Now take this, you are going to need it." The Maester handed Tyrion a vial with a clear liquid in it. Tyrion had no idea what it was or what it could mean, but he graciously took it and bid the Maester good day. He tucked it into his pocket, who knew, maybe it would be helpful later...
When the trio finally arrived, out of breath and running out of time. They were appraoched by Yara's guards. They received the team and took them to meet with Yara, but not before taking all their weapons.
Tyrion knew that they were lucky to even get this meeting. Yara was a no nonesense leader and she could have easily had them killed, but as Tyrion looked around he saw that there were far fewer people in the castles than he expected...
"Where is everyone?" He asked to Jaime and Cersei, but neither responded.
When they finally got into Yara's throne room, she looked sickly. As soon as she opened her mouth to greet them she immediately began to throw up. Her face was paler than the moon. The life in her eyes seemed to be flickering.
"Yara, what has happened to you?" Tyrion exclaimed.
"P-P-plague." was all Yara could get out.
Tyrion began to panic, if the Greyjoys all were sick, how could they ever dream of saving Kings Landing. He had no idea how to help them or himself.
Tyrion fell to the ground (not so far for him), and he pounded his fist into the stone floor.
"Damnit, how can I have failed! I cannot fail!!!"
Then Tyrion thought about his adventure, and it dawned on him... the vial! Tyrion began to appraoch Yara, and as the guards began to move to intercept him, he quickly held up his hands, and said, wait I may have something that can help! Truthfully, Tyrion had no idea if this would work, but he saw wisdom in that Maester's eyes, and it gave him enough reason that he figured he may as well try. At this point what did Yara have to lose.
He pulled out the vial and poured a few drops into Yara's mouth... she began to shake, growing more violent by the second until she stopped. The color slowly seeped back into her cheeks and her eyes snapped open brighter and more vibrant than before...
"You... you saved me" Yara said simply, still shocked.
Attempting to keep his composure, not turning to see the similarly stunned faces on his siblings, Tyrion acted as though he knew this would happen.
"I can save your people too, Yara, but I am going to need your help."
"Anything! We will be forever in your debt, and we may not be lannisters like you, but we pride ourselves on paying our debts too!"
With a grin, Tyrion handed her the rest of the vial and said, "Give this to your maester to reproduce it for your people. Then tell your men to ready the ships, its time to go save Westeros!"
