In our little ALTernate world Wxd had made it far in the playoffs. Our next match was one many of us had written off as a definite loss, including me. Sure, we were a renegade bunch of alts whose mains had Super League issues, but VMD is an alliance of players and strong ones at that.

Never one to shy away from certain defeat I was happily bringing in Skeeter and M O N O. We would do what we can do and try and have fun doing it. After all we are guaranteed top 4 no matter what happens in the match. Even my main couldn’t say that lol. We had higher participation with 56 players to their 43. They had 60 starting points to our 50.

Even with our number advantage, it would have been foolish for us to hope to win this match. Time flew by in an instant and the match had started. I headed to the hot springs taking some bases along the way. VMD made it first and then the chaos began. Waves of red and blue crashing against each other, each one vying for dominance of the cheap healing. They had the numbers and the power as they began to wear down our numbers.

We were winning by a small amount

The territory was split with both Springs and Armory being contested.

Tactically a decision was made, once all hope was gone, to abandon the springs and focus on some others territory. A group pushed up to Greyjoy Stronghold 2

I began to head there, but upon looking around the map, I found a target of opportunity.

The idea was simple, there was no enemy there, which would give me a chance to flip it to ours. Worst case the enemy comes for me, but that means they would abandon other contested places to come attack me. This could allow the homies to gain control of those contested stops. At least that is how it would play out in my head cannon. I must have been on to something as the enemy began to swarm me.

We still had a small lead, but it wouldn’t take much for VMD to overtake us for the lead. The fights we fierce. I was a madwoman trying to terrorize on two different accounts. I would set M O N O to a place to fight and or defend.

Skeeter was flittering around the map being a pest as she tends to do, finding whatever shenanigans she can…

It was then that I noticed a fight for the package was on, so I redirected both accounts to assist as the package seemed to barely move. I could see why. VMD was swarming and attacking whoever had the package.

Eventually the package would drop, sometimes they would grab it only to lose it after a few steps. Other times we would retrieve it take it a few feet and lose it again. The progression to the base was slow, the fighting fierce. Neither side is willing to budge. We eventually got the package to one of our bases.

Even with the package delivery the score was uncomfortably close. We couldn’t enjoy the lead, because we never thought we would have it and now that we did, it was Olympic level mental gymnastics to not let our good fortune allow us to look ahead to a possible win. With the score so close, one mistake is all it would take. To be fair, it never really felt like we were ahead.

This was a match where the fighting went non-stop to the very end, when the score pops up at you and you pick your prize. We never once felt like we were winning or that our larger participation really gave us an advantage. VMD was strong and fought well. The match was incredible, so much fighting and ebb and flow in both territory and fortune. We capitalized on our position when we abandoned the Hot springs and pushed into VMD territory. I feel like that was the moment the odds shifted ever so slightly in our favor, putting VMD on the defense and splitting their forces to thin to contain us. This culminated in a victory that was literally impossible until it happened. Even managing to finish with a healthy lead after such a close match.

The mood of the alliance was over the moon. I am not sure it had fully sunk in what we had accomplished. This little group of neglected alts with mains in a variety of big alliances, even traditional enemies, eeked out a win against a strong and seasoned team that were favored to win our side of the bracket. We pulled off the impossible and guaranteed a second-place finish at a minimum.

Our next opponent probably really will be impossible. Lol I think they were favored to win from the beginning. This won’t stop us from trying, of course. Even if we end up getting locked in our base, we played pretty incredibly for a bunch of neglected alts. It is a shame we can’t bet on the lower league. I bet this match would have broken everyone’s brackets. lol
