Before we dive into the interview, let’s hear from Narutō (S211) and Magic Mage (S243), who shared their thoughts on how Yawgmoth has impacted the game and the community.
Magic Mage: I first met Yawgmoth back when I was a new player in Server 214. My initial interactions with him were on the IK Discord, where I sought answers to questions that no one in my alliance or server could provide. As a veteran player, he was quick to respond, sharing not only his expertise but also the reasoning behind his answers. It’s easy to see how his deep knowledge translates into his fighting skills across ToS, KvK, and KE events. His understanding of skills and Immortals makes him a truly formidable opponent. Yawgmoth exemplifies how success in Infinity Kingdom doesn’t rely solely on power or pay-to-win tactics but on strategy and skill.
Introduction and Philosophy
Hello Yawgmoth, thank you for accepting my invitation, can you introduce yourself to the Infinity Kingdom community and share a quote or guiding principle that defines your PvP playstyle?
Hello! My name is Yawgmoth. I am essentially a wandering player who eventually settled down in a more quiet server of 211. Infinity Kingdom became a hobby for me after I tried the game out from an advertisement.
Understanding Combat and PvP Perception
Q: How do you perceive the current PvP system in Infinity Kingdom? What stands out as its strengths and weaknesses?
The PVP system in IK funny enough is not very flashy or interesting to most people, but it helps with a lot of the feelings of seeing “instant satisfaction.” That being said, this absolutely helps with ADHD because the system of instant answers now with reasons later gives a rush.
Q: What’s your process for assessing an enemy before a battle?
The first thing I do besides scouting a server or two is assessing the Strongest Troop Power section. This always gives me information immediately about things I should be noting, like main marches or skills they are running overall.
Q: What’s your favorite PvP gameplay mode in Infinity Kingdom, and why? With so many options available, what makes it stand out for you?
Legion of Frostborne and Throne of Supreme. Both of these are absolutely a test of wits, skills, and strategies. For Throne wise, it also lets me get insight through various ways of players' marches, skills, and capabilities. In my throne bracket where I achieved first place, I had to face off against a lord who had a total troop power of 1.6 Million compared to my 1.1 million. The way I gathered intel and information from their march and what to do is by assessing and reading their past throne of supreme matches, going as far as to the very first stage to get as much information as possible.
Strategy and Preparation
Q: What’s the first step in planning a successful PvP campaign?
The very first thing to plan is learning what you will be fighting against and what they have against you. This type of information will be crucial in gameplay.
Q: Do you rely on set strategies, or do you adapt your tactics based on each battle?
It depends how and what I'm fighting. Some strategies are very straightforward, requiring little changes on my end and some battles I will be swapping skills and lord talents mid fight.
Troop Configurations and Combat Tactics
Q: Can you share your preferred troop configurations for large-scale PvP?
Certainly! Typically my default is full shadow, but I have been known to use Earth Dragon in case of emergencies
Here are Yawgmoth’s artifact setups for his main team and more particularly : Tutankhamun, Himiko, and Bjorn. Tutankhamun and Himiko serve as his primary damage dealers, making artifacts with the right attributes and effects essential to his strategy.
For Tutankhamun, Yawgmoth focuses on maximizing damage output with Physical Attack Bonus as the main (%), secondary, and fourth (%) attributes. Paired with an emphasis on energy regeneration through Surge, this setup allows Tutankhamun to deal massive damage while frequently casting his ultimate.
Himiko, equipped with an Annihilation artifact, benefits from Critical Rate % and Magical Bonus attributes. This transforms her into a devastating crit machine, capable of consistently delivering high-impact magical damage.
Yawgmoth's Artifacts for His Hybrid Team
Check out Yawgmoth's artifacts for his hybrid team! These are not the absolute best, but they’re still incredibly good. With Physical Damage % boosts and Rapid traits for increased attack speed, they have everything you need for a strong hybrid setup. A mix of dedication and a bit of luck made this happen—proof that luck favors skilled players.
Q: Are there any unconventional setups or skill combinations you’ve experimented with that yielded surprising results?
Fighting Master and Duel master being used on Tutankhamun, sacrificing Fighting Master from Hannibal in my hybrid march. This was one of the more interesting ideas that ended up being a stable stay in how I built Tutan. I also have experimented with Tomyris running Wind Rage + Adrenaline Rush, which has yielded good results and eventually also ran as a default for boss killer marches I use.
Leadership and Team Dynamics in PvP
Q: How do you manage communication and coordination within your alliance during PvP battles?
Knowing that my alliance isn’t as potently strong as I am, I tend to lead the charge by taking out the much bigger priority players. By doing this I can use the other members of our alliance to sweep while I pull in the bigger end players that typically are forced to answer to a devastating march.
Q: What do you think makes a team successful in PvP scenarios?
Planning and coordination. Also diplomacy helps a ton, as even in the midst of heated intense wars during the frostborne, I am always fully willing and cooperative to cease fire when speaking diplomacy
Q: How do you approach PvP when you're on your own without backup? Are there specific tactics or strategies you rely on to handle solo battles?
When on my own I tend to take a much more direct tactic. Typically when I feel threatened by an outside source that could attack, I like to use the skill Last Stand on enemies. The basis of the idea is to lower my prosperity a lot, reducing resources stolen and troops dying in the off chance they do destroy my defense. It’s better to leave them with 3 successful hits instead of 6 or 7 total.
Overcoming Challenges and Evolving Strategies
Q: What has been the toughest PvP battle you’ve fought, and how did you manage to come out on top?
The toughest PVP battle I've ever done was with 56. Given I had been dodging them for quite a long time until the Infinity gods told me it was time. I had wins and losses, both good and bad. I didn’t come out on top as a kvk winner, but I came out on top by proving that I know the game by knowledge in battle. That being said, I absolutely had a blast playing that KVK!
Q: How do you adapt to changes in the meta or game mechanics to stay competitive?
I typically don’t. Shadow as an element seems to be very solid, getting mostly adjustments for buffs. Unlike most elements that get a lot of changes, shadow seems to withstand the test of time, getting some love and facelifts from time to time.
Insights on Game Updates and PvP
Q: Do you feel recent updates have improved or hindered the PvP experience?
The new update both hindered and improved the pvp. While grinding for another massive set of immortal shards will be a hassle for all players, I believe the hoarders and the committed are going to come out on top with the patch.
Q: What changes would you like to see in future patches to enhance PvP?
The addition of potentially Live PVP settings. If both players have their settings turned on for Live PVP, you both can take full control of your immortal and dragons, controlling how and when to use your ultimates to dominate the enemy.
Advice for Aspiring PvP Players
Q: What advice would you give to players who want to improve their PvP skills?
Losses are not what defines a weak person. A loss only displays what went wrong and what can be improved. My shadow in comparison to most was simply a theorycraft of how to counter Hybrid as an entire build. That’s what my shadow originally was built to do.
Q: Are there any common mistakes you’ve noticed in PvP that others should avoid?
People give up way too easily. Focus on the improvements of the results rather than the loss as a whole. Also make sure you read skills and understand the context between your skills and immortals vs the enemies skills and immortals.
Long-Term Goals in PvP
Q: What are your future aspirations in PvP? Are there any personal milestones or strategies you want to explore?
I do want to see what I can run at the absolute peak of a low to mid spender without even considering cracking the bank for chaos. Chaos is currently on the low priority list as I feel that I can do fine without spending thousands for one character.
Final Thoughts and Messages
Q: Is there a final message or piece of advice you’d like to share with the Infinity Kingdom community, particularly those passionate about PvP?
PVP is a normal thing in all servers. Never put away or remove Contention of Lord or the Honor Gaining part of King of the Hill, as those two events teach players the critical core functions of how PVP works and what to expect from it.
