💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome to the Patch Preview for Patch 2.7.2. Patch 2.7.2 will be released on August 15. In this article, I’ll skip all the quality-of-life updates and take a closer look at the other important gameplay changes. I’ll also touch on the buffs and nerfs of skills and immortals and predict what those changes will do to the meta.

💠Table of Contents

  • Immortal Buffs and Adjustments
  • Skill Buffs and Adjustments
  • Optimizations
  • Summary

💠Immortal Buffs and Adjustments

Louis IX has been extremely underwhelming, to say the least. Players have largely forsaken Lightning in favor of other elements. Louis IX is getting a buff in this patch that will give him a passive that increases his attack speed by 20%. In my opinion, this won’t do much to change his usage. Louis doesn’t do anything well. He lacks damage and isn’t tanky either. Giving him a little more attack speed won’t give him the oomph he needs to be viable.

Genghis Khan’s Arrow Storm damage rate is increasing from 440% to 500%. Khan was already one of the best physical damage immortals you can use in the early and mid-game, but most players opt for a magic damage backline like Himiko once they reach late-game. This buff should put Khan back on the radar, especially since healing is so prevalent these days.

Baldwin IV is getting a slight buff to his skill too. The probability of his Hurricane splitting a second time is increased to 50% from 25%. This effectively means the probability of his first split and second split happening in the same cast went up from 18.75% to 37.5%, a 100% increase. It’s a significant buff, but I’m not sure it’s enough to make him a carry or better than Himiko.

Margaret I’s fan-shaped skill is getting a buff to target all enemy units instead. The buff gives her nearly the same base damage as Merlin, a staple in Water compositions. Merlin’s ability to target every unit has put him above Margaret but this should make her viable in the right team. With her Chill condition, she will be able to, theoretically, output more damage than Merlin. She’s a dark horse to make Water teams better.

💠Skill Buffs and Adjustments

Four new skills are getting added to Tower of Knowledge. Chaos Storm, Blood Frenzy, Psionic Tide, and Time to Shine will take the stage in the new version. While we do not yet know how players can obtain the skills, they should help mid-tier players bridge the gap against spenders. If the skills are free, it’ll help free-to-play players catch up too.

Each of the elemental Protection skills is seeing their trigger chance increase from 45% to 55%. These skills are almost universally unused due to their inconsistency and lack of power. The 10% increase makes them a little more stable but they don’t overshadow any other skills. They are still only going to be used in players’ third or fourth teams and would likely not see any increased usage.

Storm Strike will see its damage increase from 100% to 150%. Storm Strike has always been the rich man’s Heavenly Thunder but was slightly weaker. This will bring the damage in line with its counterpart and players using Heavenly Thunder should replace it with Storm Strike. Heavenly Thunder is a niche skill and is seldom used so I don’t see Storm Strike being used much either.

Infinite Firepower is the first legendary skill to receive a nerf. The damage will decrease from 400% to 350%, but the trigger chance will increase from 50% to 60%. The adjustment will be better for players using the skill in tandem with Chase but otherwise should be considered a nerf.

💠Optimizations

One of my favorite changes in this a few patches ago was the increase in battle duration. That change was reverted because players were losing too many troops too quickly. Patch 2.7.2 will bring back the increased duration and battles will again last 150 seconds instead of 90. This time, it will be released with the adjustment in troop loss calculations. This shifts the battles in favor of the offensive team with more offensive units. The meta shifted to Charles and Yi-Sun Shin with a healer and Himiko backline. This composition has been timing out their offensive counterparts on defense while still packing a punch. With the battle duration increased, defensive marches will likely lose the battle and lose more troops as a result. Another great change is the 10% increase in the probability of forging artifacts with special attributes.

💠Summary

Louis IX, Genghis Khan, Baldwin IV, and Margaret I are all getting buffs in upcoming patch to entice more players to use them. Either the probability of triggering their skills went up or their damage got a sizable increase. Four new skills will be added to the game. Underused skills like the Elemental Protection series and Storm Strike are each getting their own buffs. Infinite Firepower is being adjusted to decrease the damage while increasing the proc chance. Battles will last 150 seconds instead of 90 seconds and troop losses will be adjusted to accommodate the change. Lastly, players will have an easier time crafting developable artifacts.
