Spotlight on Immortal : Tokugawa

Hey everyone, I'm PO PandaMoratia. In today's article, we will delve into The Immortal Tokugawa. We'll review the immortal's skill and exclusive artifact, and explore potential immortal and skill pairings. Lastly, I'll share my insights on his role in the current meta.

History : 

Tokugawa Ieyasu was the founder and first shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan. His rule lasted from 1603 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. He is one of the three "Great Unifiers" of Japan, along with Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Following Oda Nobunaga's death, Ieyasu was briefly a rival of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. However, he later declared his allegiance to Toyotomi and fought on his behalf. Under Toyotomi, Ieyasu was relocated to the Kanto plains in eastern Japan, away from the Toyotomi power base in Osaka. He built his castle in the fishing village of Edo, which is now known as Tokyo. Ieyasu became the most powerful daimyo and the most senior officer under the Toyotomi regime. He maintained his strength during Toyotomi's unsuccessful attempts to conquer Korea. After Hideyoshi's death, Ieyasu seized power in 1600 after the Battle of Sekigahara.

He was appointed as shōgun in 1603 and voluntarily resigned from his position in 1605, although he still retained control of the government until his death in 1616. He implemented a set of careful rules known as the bakuhan system, intended to keep the daimyo and samurai in check under the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Concept : 

Tokugawa is a Lightning Defense Shieldman Immortal. His ability is to grant all allied units a shield that can absorb physical damage (300% absorption rate) for 6 seconds. Additionally, he buffs himself with the Thunder Array effect, which lasts for 6 seconds. Under the Thunder Array effect, whenever he receives a normal attack, he will apply a random negative effect to the attacker: damage received increased by 10%, damage done decreased by 10%, energy regeneration speed decreased by 10%.

Exclusive Artifact : 

I find it moderately valuable. The Exclusive Artifact extends the duration of the ultimate skill by 1.5 seconds, resulting in a 25% increase in uptime. It's a noticeable improvement, but I don't think it's worth going to great lengths to acquire. As for the stats, I would prioritize obtaining a main attribute of Physical Defense % and aim for Growth as a special attribute.

Skills : 

As a Defense Disabler, all the usual support skills work very well on him, but there are a few that stand out.

Siren Gaze: This skill really shines when used with Immortals, as it taunts more of them to hit him, triggering more debuffs on the opponent's team.

Jade Barrier: Gives a magical damage shield in addition to his natural physical one.

Energy Shield: The more shield, the better, right?

No Escape: Can allow you to trigger some stun to increase your synergy with Lightning Dragon Taranis.

Best friends : 

Tokugawa is typically utilized in Lightning marches alongside Genghis Khan and Hammurabi, but he can also serve effectively as a versatile immortal providing defense and debuff support to a team. He synergizes well with Taranis the Lightning Dragon by rapidly stacking up the passive for a significant burst damage from your backline carry.

Conclusion : 

Since his release, Tokugawa has become a staple in the lightning meta. He is a must-have frontliner, being both very sturdy and offering a lot of utility in his kit. He is naturally very strong and doesn’t require much support to function, allowing you to focus on empowering the rest of your squad with ease and usually great results. However, his only weakness is when facing heavy Magic Damage dealers such as a double mage setup or backline controllers like Himiko or Loki, who seem to be designed to undo everything Tokugawa sets you up to do.
