You may have noticed that some of your artifacts have a development button that is greyed out. The reason is that you need one with Special Attributes in order to be able to develop it. For a detailed explanation, you can watch this video: How to Develop Artifacts

Once you possess an artifact with special attributes and can initiate its development, you may assume that you only need five more to upgrade it to a 5-star level. However, I regret to inform you that the development cost increases with each level:

- 1-star: 1 artifact

- 2-star: 2 artifacts

- 3-star: 3 artifacts

- 4-star: 4 artifacts

- 5-star: 5 artifacts

In total, 15 artifacts are required to maximize your immortal's artifact.

There are two types of special attributes that depend on the role of the artifact, applicable to both general artifacts and immortal-exclusive artifacts. It's important to note that developers have predetermined which special attributes favor specific immortals for their exclusive artifacts. For example, both William and Alexander are offensive frontline immortals, but William's Domesday Book can grant either [Iron Fist] or [Surge], while Alexander's Homer's Epic can grant [Iron Fist] or [Rapid]. Although both attributes are generally beneficial, certain immortals may have preferences based on their builds and skill synergies.

Given the lengthy journey toward maxing out an artifact, there are ample opportunities to obtain the desired special attribute through luck. However, what should one do when they acquire their desired special attribute, but find the other attributes on the artifact undesirable? Unfortunately, the primary attribute (the top-line one) remains fixed and cannot be altered. That's for instance the pickle I find myself in in this video. The remaining attributes can be "rerolled" by visiting the alchemy lab > Artifact Reborn, though it requires spending alchemy stones. These stones can be obtained either by purchasing the second daily bundle from season 2 or in the Triss shop for Cinder of Wishes.

After acquiring 15 artifacts for your immortal, their utility diminishes, except for using them for leveling purposes, which might be considered somewhat wasteful. Therefore, it's essential not to squander "decent" artifacts until you acquire better ones. Although it can be costly to reborn them, for many, it is a necessity due to the lengthy process of obtaining the right artifact.

So buckle up and get grinding for those schematics, because we've got a loooong way to go, folks!
